Happy Anniversary to Us!

A year ago (tomorrow!) I married my best friend. Our wedding was perfect...brunch, friends, family and lots and lots of love. It was an amazing day and I wouldn't change anything about it. The day after our wedding we loaded up the car and took our first roadtrip as a married couple. Soon after that we were moving into our first apartment and starting our lives together.

When I saw Jennifer and Dustin's top ten list of their first year married, I knew I had to do the same thing. So, after you check out our list make sure you check out their fantastic list!

Top Ten of our First Year!

One: Our Wedding Day
Sure it's probably cliche to put our wedding on the list...but it's what got it all started! We had had 70 people at our wedding, close family and friends. It was the least stressful day ever. The food was amazing, we laughed, we danced, I couldn't have asked for anything more perfect! We have tons of wedding pictures...and I'm only going to tease you with one of them!

Two: Bringing Little Miss Miley Home
We brought Miley home on April 17. I spent a week searching for a beagle, we found someone who said she had a full-blooded-beagle. HA! Miley has to be the tallest beagle on the planet if that is true! She is the cutest, sweetest puppy and really completes our little family!

 Three: Kaleb's Visit
Kaleb spent two weeks with us over the summer. We did alot! Mini-golf, bowling, zoo, aquarium, beach, roadtrip to South Carolina, and on his last night here....Medieval Times! We all had such a good time with him here...Miley misses her little buddy!

 Four: Massachusetts for 24 Hours
We flew into Boston at 8AM, went to a my uncle's luau themed wedding, and left the following morning. It was the most fun we've ever had in 24 hours! Lots and lots of alcohol, a hangover on a plane, and crazy memories. Things like this makes me wish Massachusetts was closer to North Carolina!

Five: Paul McCartney!
My sister and her (then) boyfriend came down for a week of fun...on the agenda: Charlotte and Paul McCartney! We went out for delicious sushi and ended the night with Sir Paul. It was amazing hearing him sing Hey Jude and all the other favorites. I physically had goosebumps the entire show. You need to see him in concert!

Six: Wine and Beer Festivals
So I'm cheating, these are actually two different weekends with our favorite couple, Carmen and Mike. Lots of alcohol and lots of fun. Really, that's all that needs to be said!

Seven: Mom and Dad in North Carolina
Mom and Dad came down for Columbus Day weekend. We did lots of touristy stuff, me and Mom did some shopping and the guys went golfing. I love that Danny and my parents get along so well. These pictures are from our dinner at Olive Garden...I gave Danny a kiss, then Mom and Dad made fun of us!

  Eight: Halloween at the Colwells
This was on Jennifer's list too. I think we all credit this night for the reason Everclear can't be found on North Carolina shelves anymore. Great night...awful hangover!

  Nine: Christmas in Massachusetts
Ten days in Massachusetts, two crazy puppies and lots of memories! Miley had her first taste of snow! Danny and my Dad went "couch shopping," which was really an all day Christmas party. Nerds! But it was great to just get away for a few days and spend time with the family!

  Ten: Disney!
By far the best part of the year. I love Disney and I secretly already want to go back! (Okay, it's really not a secret!)

Tomorrow starts another year of amazing memories!

Very Special Trip Home!

I'm back! I just spent five days in Massachusetts with my family. I went home to celebrate my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary. NO ONE knew I was coming home. Friday (their actual anniversary) morning I went over my grandparents house to surprise them. They kept asking "why are you home?" My answer changed a lot throughout the day..."I was bored" or "to give you your Avon." I couldn't tell them I was home for THEIR surprise party!

Saturday night Mom had dinner at the house. We invited my Uncle and his family and my grandparents. My grandparents, who are always early, showed up exactly on time. I later found out that they thought the surprise party was happening then! We sat Nana and Grampy on the couch and gave them a big 'ol box. Inside...fancy party clothes and a note that said "wear these clothes, be ready at 12:30 tomorrow, and your chariot will be picking you up." Watch the video...they were shocked!

Saturday night was low key, we had an awesome dinner and spent time together as a big family!

Fast forward to Sunday, my sister was dressed and ready to go. She drove her Ford Taurus to my grandparents house...when she got there they wanted to know where she was headed..her response.."I'm going clubbing." Soon, their REAL charriot came! I'm still waiting for my sister to put up the pictures of them posing, maybe a "Wordless Wednesday" by the time she gets them to me!

A group of 70 friends and family were waiting for them at the party. They rolled up in the car...and instantly Nana cried! She kept saying "I'm so blessed," over and over again! We all stood around the dance floor, in a circle of love, while they danced their first dance all over again. My Uncle gave a speech and my Nana's closest girlfriends, of over 50 years, gave an amazing speech. It was perfect!

Then it was time for dinner. There was salad, chicken piccata, pot roast, potatoes, veggies...and amazing butternut squash soup! And the dessert...oh.my.God. Besides the wedding cake, there was also cheesecakes and tons of pastries. Sugar coma! And to think, most of the people who were eating it are old and diabetic!

Then there were some games, Nana and Grampy had to choose teams of 9...and had to put numbers in order to get the right answers. Grampy's team cheated...but still won! Then there was newspaper dancing, Uncle Rick and June got quite creative!

There was more dancing and fun, with the same DJ we used for my wedding. They are amazing and I highly recommend them. My cousin kept asking if we had a frequent buyers card! The DJs surprised my Mom with a photographer and DJ, because we are such great customers...and because they love ME. HAHA!

We had a pretty sweet "photo shoot" with the family. It got pretty wild and crazy...it's so us!

When the party was over, my grandparents made their way up to the suite for the  night and everyone went home. It was such a perfect day with family and friends. I love hanging out with everyone. One of the many reasons why I miss living close to home! It was so good to see everyone and to celebrate such an amazing day with my grandparents.

I heard over and over again that I look like my Auntie Lovey...what do you think?

And because I know everyone loves seeing pictures of my great-grandmother...here she is!!!

Congrats Nana and Grampy, I love you!

All Because Two People Fell in Love

For the next few days I'll be featuring some of my favorite bloggers. I asked them one simple question, "Where do you see you and your husband in fifty years?" Feel free to leave your answer in the comments...I'd love to feature your comments in a post later!

Tonight's guest blogger is Jennifer, from Colwells in Carolina, and my good friend!. After reading her guest post, make sure you show her some love over at her blog. Thank you Jennifer!

My blog is Colwells in Carolina, all about our newlywed, marine corps adventure here in North Carolina! Sit back, relax, and enjoy a message from the future, of where my hubby and I might be on our 50th wedding anniversary...

The Colwells: A Fairytale Romance
50th Anniversary Announcement, February 14, 2060

Dustin and Jennifer met in 2003, while they both worked at Macaroni Grill back home in Georgia. They started dating the end of Jennifer's senior year of high school, and had their share (and some to spare) of ups and downs, break-ups and make-ups over the course of the next several years. They were married on February 14, 2010 in a beautiful beach ceremony in Florida.

At their rehearsal dinner, Jenn and Dustin set up a prediction jar. Family and friends predicted where the couple would be 10 years from the wedding day. The answers were hilarious, touching, and insightful and wrapped into one. They ranged from: 2 kids, white picket fence, Jenn teaching and Dustin working as a cop -- to 4 daughters and a female dog, so Dustin would forever be surrounded by women -- to a drawing of a ninja. (Hoping that last one was from the ring bearer, and not the groom!)

Dustin was a Marine, and stationed in North Carolina. They entered a phase known as "Colwells in Carolina". Jenn was happy to have a job as a kindergarten teacher, and Dustin was advancing his career in the USMC. Dustin stuck with the military, retiring eventually and beginning a second career as a teacher, still in North Carolina. The Colwells enjoyed their summers off, spending their time traveling to all 50 states with their 3 children, and even seeing a baseball game in every Major League Baseball Stadium (and saving the ticket stubs to prove it).

They set high expectations for their children, who all went on to attend and graduate college. Once their children all graduated college, Jennifer and Dustin celebrated by spending a year traveling the world. At the age of 60, both Jenn and Dustin retired from their careers as teachers, to instead spend their time visiting and spoiling grandchildren, watching sunsets from rocking chairs on a long wrap-around porch, and finally sleeping in on the weekdays! They celebrate their 50th anniversary, surrounded by children and grandchildren who have traveled from near and far to appreciate just how powerful and enduring true love can be! The happy couple's advice to others is to never go to bed mad, follow the golden rule, and listen to the song "All Because Two People Fell in Love" by Brad Paisley, just to get a picture of how big one couple's love can be.

Thanks for letting me guest blog, Nicole, and thank you all for reading!

I Want that Award

For the next few days I'll be featuring some of my favorite bloggers. I asked them one simple question, "Where do you see you and your husband in fifty years?" Feel free to leave your answer in the comments...I'd love to feature your comments in a post later!

Today's guest blogger is Kaylee from Devil Dog Darling. After reading her guest post, make sure you show her some love over at her blog. Thank you Kaylee!
I want to say a big thank you to Nicole for allowing me to guest post for her while she is away to celebrate such a wonderful occasion.

Her grandparent’s 50th wedding anniversary! I mean how wonderful and exciting is that? I must wish them all of the congratulations that I can and many more years for them to celebrate.

I look forward to the day that Jacob and I can stand with all of our children, grandchildren, family and friends to celebrate half a century of life shared together.

Honestly right now, I am wondering...
What Jacob and I will look like?
How many kids will we have?
What about grand children, or even great grandchildren?
Wow, the rest of my life with the same person?

The day Jacob and I were married was probably the happiest day of my life.

(Now I think the happiest day was when he learned that age old saying... "Happy wife Happy life!)

Gosh was I nervous

At the time, we didn't think it was ever going to happen.

Jacob was stationed in North Carolina and I was living in Virginia.

It took a month to get the marriage license.

Then my car was totaled.

I couldn't get down there to get married.

I cried for days.

The day we had planned came and went and I was still not his Mrs. Yet.

My boss became my angel (then kicked me in the teeth a month later).

She loaned me her car and gave me a day off of work so I could go marry my best friend.

I was shaking most of the drive (4 hours have never gone by so slow)

On one of my many rest stops (I have an over active bladder when I get nervous, TMI?) I was approached my a biker (who quite frankly, scared the snot out of me when he knocked on my window) who asked me if I was a Jarhead? (from the stickers on the car, my boss's son was a marine as well)

I replied that my soon-to-be Husband was and I was going to marry him that day. I received congratulations from him, his wife and all of the other riders that he shouted it to, so loudly that the whole parking lot stopped and stared.
He told me, “The best thing in life is sharing it with someone you care for more than yourself.”

Skip to the vows.  We finally made it to the court house and I was practically bouncing. We had no witnesses (that we knew, they were random nice people that we asked to stand there for us, our original witnesses backed out) and no white dress or dress blues, but we had fire in our hearts and were so happy and confident in our decision.

As Jacob started reciting his vows to me tears came to my eyes, (and I swore I wouldn’t cry!) until he started to stutter
For some reason..
he could not get out the line that stated he would be faithful!!
I wasn't sure if I should be irritated of laugh... I smacked him and he spit it out, the justice of the peace gave me a nasty look..but

At that point, I burst out laughing and we laughed our way through the rest of it.

What an amazing feeling shot through me when I kissed my husband for the first time!  I knew that I didn't need fancy, or a dress or a uniform, I had the man with the heart!

Now, I am sitting here and wondering about 50 years later (technically 49, we’ve been married a year).

I see us bickering just the same as we always have!

I see us living in South Carolina, I have always loved it there, In a house like this

With a family like this, hopefully bigger!

spending our days doing this

I can't wait to see where life takes us, but I will cherish each and every moment along the way to 50 years, and then

I hope I have a big stinkin party where I get to wear a dress and have a cake and have my family come in from every where...

I mean come on now..

50 years with the same man,

Don't you get an award or a gold medal for not killing him by that point?

Cute Ol' Country Bumpkins

For the next few days I'll be featuring some of my favorite bloggers. I asked them one simple question, "Where do you see you and your husband in fifty years?" Feel free to leave your answer in the comments...I'd love to feature your comments in a post later!

Tonight's guest blogger is Chelsey from I'll Be Seeing You. After reading her guest post, make sure you show her some love over at her blog. Thank you Chelsey!

I can never stress enough to anyone to marry your best friend. Physical attraction is great, but by the time your 50 year wedding anniversary comes up, lets face it, unless there are major changes in the medical industry, we'll all look like shriveled up prunes. Joseph and I are the biggest nerds on earth, but I can truly say, I'm absolutely 100% thankful that we're that way. Just last night when we were having dinner at a restaurant; we looked to our left, and what can I say? We're nosy. I could hear the couple beside us discussing different possible governmental policies they thought were ridiculous. The couple behind me were discussing something that sounded like different kinds of wine. Our topics of choice throughout the whole dinner were,"Okay, so, if you were a Pokemon trainer, which elements would you want?", and "Batman is NOT a super hero! He has no super hero powers!", and "OH MY GOD! DID YOU KNOW AUNT MAY FROM SPIDER-MAN HAD A LHASA APSO?!" Yes, I promise guys. That's what we talked about. How many people could I talk about my favorite Pokemon with? Yeah, that's what I thought.

I'm more thankful than anyone knows for the support we received from our families, minus Joseph's mom, but, Joseph's her baby so we all knew that wouldn't go over well; she's fine now. Everyone knew when we got married it would be like sending two 12 year olds out into the world, giving them money, a car, and house, and saying,"Good luck!" I worked at Dollar General for 4 months. Granted that my boss was a psycho douchebag who tried to make me work in the evenings during my Anatomy lab, but still. Joseph has had quite a few jobs, and the longest he's stuck with any are maybe 6 months (minus the Marine Corps). Joseph's parents bought his first car for him at 16. I wasn't even allowed to drive until the last 2 weeks of my senior year (Dad's rules). Needless to say we were, and still very much are, clueless to the real world. I assume we may get it one day, though.

Nicole asked me to write about where I saw my husband and I on our 50 year wedding anniversary. Being young and naive, it's hard to wrap my head around anything passed tomorrow, but still, somehow, I can very clearly see us as adorable (possibly cranky and hateful) little old people. I can see Joseph, all shriveled up and shorter (if that's possible. I do love him, but the poor thing is only 5'3" now.) If my love of food continues, I will probably be at least a whopping 800 pounds, but, let's hope I change by then.
If Joseph and I, by the grace of God, manage to survive to see our 50 year wedding anniversary, it will truly be a miracle. Between my horrible almost-burn-the-house-down cooking, and Joseph's,"Oh hey, this 18-wheeler is ticking me off. I think I'll ride his bumper", we'll definitely be pushing it.

I guess our future could go in any direction, but, Joseph's absolutely determined that we win the lottery, the easy way out of being poor the rest of our lives. Joseph stops at a gas station at the very least, once a week to get lottery tickets. I try to explain to him the odds of us winning are slim to, well, there's no chance. If we ever won the lottery of course our future would probably be much different, but since that's obviously not going to happen, I'll get back to my real approach:

Children? As of right now, I don't see us having very many, one, two at most. My husband is determined to raise the all-star boy, and I'm determined to raise the girliest girl you have ever seen.

I can absolutely see us on a farm complete with an old farmhouse we had restored years and years before. It's a pretty rational belief to think our home will look like a small armory. Where we're from, EVERYONE lives and breathes guns! (I've even been to a few gun shows in my life, and yes, I thoroughly enjoyed them.) Joseph, for the most part, will probably still have the same past times. He'll be metal detecting, and I'll be praying he doesn't sneeze so I don't have to dig through the dirt for his dentures. (True story, this happened to my grandfather.)

Photobucket

We'll still have the old cavalier with the, what used to be "stitched up" bumper, flapping in the breeze because we're too cheap to get a new vehicle. We'll be petting our taxidermy kitties because I can assure you, we won't be able to let go. And, has anyone seen the show Picker's on the History channel? I can assure you, our home will look like one of the houses featured on the show. Joseph's a pack rat and picks up things randomly off the curbs. It's embarrassing, but we're from hillbilly country, so THERE it's normal. Silly Joseph...

Animals will still play a huge role in our lives. Since our plan is to live on a big farm, we'll have tons. We'll have 2 or 3 cows, just for pets, pigs, for the same reason; we'll have chickens and roosters just to listen to their little chirps and wake up calls. We'll have every single kind of dog you can imagine and the laziest, fattest cats on the planet.

I know for a fact, when you walk into our house, Joseph's dress blues picture will be sitting in the center of our living room, and I'll still be just as proud looking at it then as I was the day I first laid eyes on it, Family Day, in his barracks room. I'll still have my old binder of letters, and it will still be in the same condition as now: I will take care of that before anything. You can open the refrigerator, and I promise there will still be Ginger Ale (my favorite drink on the planet) sitting in the corner next to a half empty gallon of milk, because I'm sure Joseph will still be eating cereal for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. (Not because I'm a horrible cook, but because he just absolutely loves cereal.)

As for the celebration of our 50 year wedding anniversary? It'll probably be a hot, humid day back home in, up in the Appalachians. Joseph and I try our best to celebrate every month we're together anyway. Every year, every month, every day, every hour, every minute, ever second: all of it is a blessing, and we definitely try our best not to take it for granted. Honestly, Joseph and I may be immature and have more to learn than could be imagined, but everyone thinks of Joseph, and some people even consider me, an "old soul". We prefer to keep to ourselves; we like it that way. We don't like loud, noisy get togethers. We prefer the peace of quiet moments. Our celebration will probably be just like any other day. We'll probably celebrate quietly, and alone. I can see us in our horribly beaten up Cavalier, riding down the dirt road to the place where Joseph proposed. Somehow, I can picture Joseph trying to get down on one knee, hearing a few bones pop, and us both laughing since he had attempted to do it again just "for ol' times sake"; we joke a lot, and I don't see it going away with age. I see us walking, slowly, but walking up that same road as we did that same cold winters night he proposed, and I see us just talking; talking about everything, as we do everyday: the night he proposed, how sick I was, how I dropped the ring in the snow, how we both cried; the day we met, how nervous we both were, how he gave me the biggest bear hug ever and me apologizing for having stinky breath; the day we first kissed, and how I was afraid I would be bad at it ; and laughing, as always, once again, at the day we were married, and the horrible misfortunes we encountered on that day (to read about those, go here). He'll probably "accidentally" bump in to me while we're walking, grab my hand, and he'll probably look over and say: "So baby, did you see us making it this far back then? Did ya?", and I'll do my ever famous and annoying, "answering a question with a question" and reply with,"Did you?" Joseph will probably smile and say,"Yes baby, I did, and I may have said this earlier but, happy anniversary. I love you most." I'll probably blush, because Joseph still has his ways, and I still do, sometimes daily, and say,"No, ...I love you most." I can see all of this, every bit, clear as day. Two cute, frail, old people walking and talking like they just met, just as we already do, each and every day.

2 Days Before V-day

Today we have the amazing Amber from Goodnight Moon as our guest blogger. After reading her guest post, make sure you show her some love over at her blog. Thank you Amber!

Our wedding date picked itself.
When you choose to marry a Marine
{or any military branch}
you have to understand that you kinda get married on
Uncle Sam's terms.
Did I ever think I would be getting married in the month of February?
Heck no!
Nope.
Not at all.
I really don't like the month of February.
It doesn't hold anything special in my heart.
No particular day stands out to me besides the obvious
Valentines Day.
And with that being said
I'm not to crazy about Valentines Day.
To me it's just another Hallmark holiday where
your suppose to confess your love extra special to one another that day.
It's just a day where women want men to read their minds
and
when their man fails
{because lets face it they aren't even close to being mind readers}
we as women get all upset
and
heart broken
thinking that they don't love us enough
or
know us well enough because they didn't deliver
our expectations.
So when
Fox
and
I
sat down to look at the calender to see when we could get married
we weren't able to pick a date that held a special meaning to us
or
pick something silly like
03-04-05
or
05-05-05.
As we sat down
and
looked at a calender for the year 2005
we also had to have Fox's work calender right beside us.
February 12th was the only weekend we could get married
within our wedding window time frame
due to Fox's training schedule.
But to us it wasn't about the date
it was about us spending the rest of our lives together.
Fox
and
I
decided against a big wedding.
We were married in Las Vegas
and
had an open invitation to anyone that wanted to fly out
and
be apart of our special day.
We held no expectations of anyone.
We booked a cheesy chapel to marry us
and
had about 30 guests that flew in to be apart of our special day.
The best part was
we didn't have to entertain any of them
Vegas did that for us.
Our wedding day was about our love for one another.
It was about simplicity.
I remember standing in front of Fox
as we exchanged our vows to one another
our eyes never strayed.
We lived in that moment.

{This picture was taken from a very old school camera. The date's not even right?}

I married my best friend
on a February day
that is 2 days before
Valentines Day.
But that doesn't matter
because each anniversary that we never get to spend together
{sadly this is true...and when I say never...I mean never which will also includes our next anniversary}
is another year that I remain one lucky lady.
Marrying Fox was my destiny. We are so completely connected
and
in tuned to one another
that sometimes its really scary.

Where do I see us in 50 years?
Sitting on our front porch
holding hands
and
still in love
and
hopefully neither one of us will have dentures.

I fell in love with a man online...

For the next few days I'll be featuring some of my favorite bloggers. I asked them one simple question, "Where do you see you and your husband in fifty years?" Feel free to leave your answer in the comments...I'd love to feature your comments in a post later!

Tonight's guest blogger is one of my favorite Marine wives and mommies, Tiffanie. After reading her guest post, make sure you show her some love over at her blog. Thank you Tiffanie!!

I've never been asked to be a guest blogger so I hope I'm doing this right.
My name is Tiffanie, I am a proud Marine Wife & blessed Mommy of two beautiful babies...so far... ;o)))
It's hard to really imagine what I'll be like at the age of 75...being married for 56 1/2 years!!!
But I believe one day I will be there, unless God decides other wise...
I just have random thoughts about what it might be like...but I know it will still be as happy with my LoverBoy as the day I married him...May 21, 2004!"A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person."

It's true...we met online! In a Yahoo! chat room...you remember those chat room days?!
I was 18 & he was 20...
we met online in December 2003...my parents had talked to him several times on the phone & I ended up driving down to Camp Pendleton the last weekend of January 2004 from my home in Northern California to see him for the first time...EVER...I hadn't even seen a picture of him until I stopped half way at his parents house to make sure he was a Creepy McCrepperson...no I'm not kidding...I met his ENTIRE family before I met him.
We spend the whole weekend together & it was wonderful!
He respected me & that I didn't want for our relationship not to be based on anything physical & he agreed. When I was getting ready to head home on Sunday, he got teary-eyed & asked me not to leave...he wanting to go get married.
As much as I knew I was already in love with him before we had even met & knew I wanted to marry him, I declined. I told him that it wasn't how I wanted to get married...I wanted my family to be there & wanted the white dress & all that fuss I had always dreamed about!
Soooo....
2 weeks later on Valentine's Day he got on one knee & proposed at his Nana's house on the porch swing while we were outside talking about life & looking at the stars...it was just us...simple & perfect! Yah...we knew each other in person a whole 3 1/2 months before we got married...but we knew that we we're in love & wanted to spend eternity together!
I hope we're surround by grandbabies & great-grandbabies!
I pray that my children have someone who respects & loves them for who they truly are, that they are as crazy in love as their Daddy & myself!
I hope I'm NOT living in a retirement home...HAHA...but as long as I was with LoverBoy I guess it wouldn't be too bad.
I really would rather be living in a beautiful simple country house on a nice piece of land with horses & maybe a couple goats...I don't know why I like goat's...but I do & it's definitely not because I like goat mild...yuck! :o)))I hate thinking that my great-grandma, my grandparents & parents will probably all be in Heaven...but I pray that I've made them PROUD OF ME!
I see myself being an old silly lady, probably having a few more tattoos that I'll be proud to take to my final resting place.
I know I will still very best friends with several Marine wives I've grown to love & adore over the last 6 years & a few of my best friends from before my Marine Corps life.
I see myself STILL CROCHETING...but in a wood rocking chair on a wrap around pouch over looking our property.
I hope that I will have finished Beauty College by my 75th birthday...BAHAHA...there's always been a legitimate reason it's been put off since I got married!
I hope I will be healthy & fit...I hope I've seen more of the world.
Like, IRELAND (*hint*hint* LoverBoy) maybe even a few times.
I imagine that we will have conquered the deployment that we are currently surviving, maybe even a few more.I see myself still a very proud Marine Wife to a man who was proud & loved of every year he served, if things go how we'd like them to, he will be proudly retired from the Marine Corps.I guess the most important part of what I hope for in 50 years...
that I am PROUD of the woman I've grown to be & that I am happy, TRULY HAPPY & can leave behind happiness for anyone that knew me when it is my time to go.
You can find my life story over at...
MY BLOG
Don't be offended that I haven't blogged too much lately.
It's true, I've been a slacker...trying to keep up with my babies & getting through this deployment are my first priority even if it means actually getting sleep & not having time to blog.
I'm of course on Facebook & you can add me as a friend there too...
If you'd like to see my creative side feel free to add Skull Stitches too! :o)))

Good Morning "Beautiful"

For the next few days I'll be featuring some of my favorite bloggers. I asked them one simple question, "Where do you see you and your husband in fifty years?" Feel free to leave your answer in the comments...I'd love to feature your comments in a post later!

Today's guest blogger is LC from Faith and Deployments. After reading her guest post, make sure you show her some love over at her blog. Thank you LC!

"Good Morning Beautiful" is what I wake up to most days, or get as a text, or email, or facebook message. This morning, I woke up to a text that said "love love love beautiful wife of mine".

My favorite part of our wedding was the 15 minutes I was standing at the end of the garden saying my vows to my husband. It was the only time that the whole world faded away. It was me and him and at that moment it was the first and only time it was completely us. We wrote our own vows and they were perfect. We both cried and had the perfect kiss and the perfect dip. To read about our wedding details you can visit my post here. I wrote about it for our first wedding anniversary which we had Aug 2, 2010.

In order to not completely be pessimistic talking about my own wedding I want to talk about where I see ourselves on our 50th wedding anniversary. I'll be 71 and he will be 75. Wow, that seems so far off but I know it will go by fast. I do know when we renew our vows I want it just to be the two of us.

Unless we have some pretty amazing kids who don't drive me insane by then, then they can come :) I honestly hope we don't change too much. My goal in my marriage is to be just as much in love with my husband as the first day I met him.

I want us to have all our personality quirks, to bicker, and most of all to love to kiss and smack each others butts. Gross right? I think the best marriages are the ones where you can tell how absolutely in love the couple still are 20, 30, even 50 years down the road. You know the movie The Notebook. I want to be like them when we die.

I want to look back on our life together and know we fought, kissed, cried, and loved each other completely. Why? Because it wouldn't be life without him. He's my best friend, my lover, and the man that steals my heart and can make me cry from shear love. I want us to live our marriage to the fullest and at the end of the day he still texts me "kiss kiss kiss" or "love love love" or tells me he loves me "whole whole whole whole whole bunches" I want my last breath to be with him calling him "Handsome" and me "Beautiful"

So while our wedding day wasn't perfect and has more bad memories than good, I have the most perfect person because of it, and we can laugh about it now that it is over. He's my soul mate, my hero, my husband.

Twenty Sixty-One

For the next few days I'll be featuring some of my favorite bloggers. I asked them one simple question, "Where do you see you and your husband in fifty years?" Feel free to leave your answer in the comments...I'd love to feature your comments in a post later!
My bestie Katie, from Like Sunshine After Rain, is our amazing guest blogger. After reading her guest post, make sure you show her some love over at her blog. Thank you Katie!

I was incredibly humbled when Nicole asked me to guest blog.
Even more so when I found out the topic!
Where I see myself on my 50th wedding anniversary.
If you read my blog, you know I'm not married yet, hence being humbled!

I'm not going to lie, when I sat down to write this, I had to do some math.
I'm getting married on January 8, 2011.

2011 + 50 = 2061
2061 - 1986 = 75

My 50th wedding anniversary will be on January 8, twenty sixty-one.
I will be seventy-five years old.

No joke, I can't even fathom it.
I've been sitting here thinking about if for a couple minutes.
I can't get past wondering if there will be flying cars.
Will my grandchildren drive [or would it be more PC to say fly?] a flying car?

I can't tell you where I see myself in twenty sixty-one.
And you have no idea how much that bugs me.
I am a planner.
I had my entire life planned out.
Life can be funny about throwing your plans out the window.

Planning this wedding has literally made me sick.
I haven't told many people, but it hasn't been an extremely pleasant experience.
I'm over it, though.
It hit me the other day.
My wedding isn't about making other people happy.
My wedding isn't about other people's expectations.
It's about Frank and me.
The only thing that matters on January 8 is that Frank and I become husband and wife.

I find myself praying for patience a lot, as of late.
I pray I'll be patient and trusting enough to see what life has in store for Frank and I and to make the best out of whatever it may be.

But, that's what it's all about, right?
In twenty sixty-one, when we look back on the last 50 years together, it isn't about the number of kids we had, the average balance in our bank account, the cars we've driven or any of that stuff.
It's about whether or not we made the best out of the hand we were dealt.
It's about whether or not we lived for us, not other's expectations of us.
It's about whether or not we weathered the storm, side-by-side.

Twenty sixty-one
Seventy-five years old.
Fifty years of marriage.
I may not be able to fathom it, but I can't wait to get started on it.

Lady's Love Story

Today the ever-lovely Birdie from No Model Lady is our guest blogger. After reading her guest post, make sure you show her some love over at her blog. Thank you Birdie!

My wedding was more of a formality than anything. Spouse and I planned to elope on the beach but that plan was quickly vetoed by "the moms". If there is an opposite of a bridezilla, that was me. My interest was less on the ceremony and more on our lives together. I had known Spouse for years, seeing him as nothing more than a great friend.
Then one day as if by magic it was like a veil was lifted from my eyes, allowing me see him as the wonderful man I wanted to be with forever.
I didn't want to waste any more time on that friendship business.
I just wanted to be with him and build a family with him. Nothing else mattered too much.
Here's our love story so far...

6 Years Down, 44 More To Go

Tonight, pretty-mama Lindsey from A Day in the Life of a Marine Corps Wife is our guest blogger. After reading her guest post, make sure you show her some love over at her blog. Thank you so much Lindsey!

Thank you to Nicole for having me as a guest blogger. Nicole is heading up to Boston to celebrate her Grandparents 50th wedding anniversary. So here I am, writing about where I see myself on my 50th Wedding Anniversary.

My husband and I eloped on June 24th, 2004. Only a few days after I graduated high school. We were head over heels in love with each other, some people called it "puppy love" but we knew better. We heard everything from "it'll never last", to "you'll be divorced within a year". Well here we are, almost 7 years of marriage later, happy as ever.

On our 50th wedding anniversary, I will be 68 years old. I picture our daughters gathering everyone for a party like Nicole's grandparents are having. Like Nicole...I will have all my grandchildren flying in from around the country (or world if they marry Marines too!). And when I say grandchildren, I'm talking like 10! I have high expectation for our girls I guess because we only have 2! Yes girls...I want you to have 5 kids each! I want that large house that people love coming too. I have no idea where that house might be. I know my husband is a career Marine so only God knows where we will eventually settle down. I see my husband sitting in his chair (with his retired USMC hat on) telling the kids riddles and showing them magic tricks. (Although when I asked him where he see's himself at 70 years old, he said "probably dead") My husband will be that old man that always says innapropriote things, meanwhile his wife is behind him, shaking her head, just like she did 40 years ago when he told lame jokes.

I get so inspired by couples who celebrate big anniversaries. I am close with a woman who just celebrated her 60th wedding Anniversary. Complete with snail mail during Vietnam and several children. I hope we see that day. Although every single anniversary my husband and I celebrate is so special to us. I feel like we've overcome a lot of obstacles that most young couples don't go through. There were plenty of times when I thought "how am I ever going to get through this". Mostly referring to deployments. I look forward to celebrating all the anniversaries yet to come for us, and I can't wait to spend the rest of forever with my wonderful husband!
