My Dream Trip to Disney!

I have never been to Disney World. It's a sad fact, but one day, this will change! When Nicole asked me to blog while she went on her trip, I jumped on it! But I had no idea all that Disney actually had to offer until I did my research for this post! So here are some of my must-do's for my dream trip to Disney!

First and foremost, the ears. You have to have the ears! These will be the first thing I buy and Brandon will get Mickie ears. We will wear them for the duration of our vacation!

This is the hotel I would loveee to stay at! It's the Bay Lake Tower and I think it looks so luxurious!! I think vacations should be relaxing, and I would love to relax by that pool! It's huge! The hotel rooms look very modern and pristine, which I love. And I love the mini kitchen/living area.

Food is always a huge part of a vacation for me! I love trying new restaurants and experiencing new foods! Two restaurants that would be a must for me Kouzzina (Food Network chef Cat Cora's restaurant) and the Wolfgang Puck Cafe. It's a little mission of mine to eat at all the Food Network chef's restaurants in my life! I've eaten at the Lady and Sons (Paula Deen's) and it was fabulous! I think it was the best restaurant I've been to! So those two would be awesome. I also really liked Les Chefs de France and Planet Hollywood, of course. I love anything French and Planet Hollywood just seems like a staple to me!
Lastly, there are just some general things that I've always associated with Disney that I just have to see and do!

And I will take pictures with every available character I see...even though people in suits seriously creep me out.

Hopefully one day all of this will come true! Because it is Disney World, after all!

Disney Fever!

Over the next few days I'll be featuring some great posts by some awesome bloggers! The theme? Disney! Today's guest is Carmen from We See the Same Stars. Read her post then make sure you check out her blog!

Thanks again for letting me guest blog for you Nicole! I'm UBER jealous that you are going to Disney (by the way)!!! I hope you have a fabulous time! I miss you bunches girl!

I have Disney fever. Plain and simple. I have such a strong desire to go back it bugs me ALWAYS. I used to go every year until I was 16 and I can't WAIT to take my family there one day. BUT! Without further ado...

Carmen's Top Picks for Disney World!
Author's note: None of these pictures are mine, they are property of Disney. Also, I did not mention the 4th park Animal Kingdom since it is rather new and is still being built up. I do totally recommend going there as well!

Magic Kingdom
What you MUST do: The Pirates of the Caribbean located in Adventureland
It's a great ride for everyone in the family, whether you have kids or not. Some younger kids might get slightly scared at the beginning since it is dark and there is a creepy skeleton speaking to you but the rest of the ride is smooth sailing. It's comical and beyond entertaining for the kids and adults. I have loved it ever since I was in the womb (literally, the only ride my mom got on while she was pregnant with me) and it's a great thing for the family to do. Generally, it doesn't have a long line or if it does, it goes rather quickly.

Pirates of the Caribbean

Where you MUST eat: The Pinocchio Village Haus located in Fantasyland
I've always loved this place even as a kid. If you are looking for a quick refill on food and just want some good ol' American cuisine, this is the place to go. Kids love it and they have really great salads for adults if you aren't the junk food type. It's moderately priced but you can sit outside and enjoy the nice weather of Orlando.

The Pinocchio Village Haus

What you MUST see: Main Street USA's Electrical Parade
This parade is absolutely amazing. Everything is engulfed in light. Floats, characters, animals, anything you can think of! It's really a fantastic thing to see and kids absolutely love it. Just be prepared to try and get a spot ahead of time before it starts (which I believe is usually 9:00pm or when it gets dark enough outside).

Main Street Electrical Parade

Epcot
What you MUST do: Ride the monorail (front row!) and ride test track
If you are a park-hopper (like me!) you will probably go to more than one park in a day. I recommend if you are going to Magic Kingdom, take the free monorail to Epcot and ride in the front with the captain! Sometimes you get lucky and don't have to wait that long to get it but every once in a while the line is long. It's really neat to sit up there and see everything as it comes up! Even if you don't sit in the front, it's still cool to ride.

Second, test track is a thrill ride designed to simulate what cars go through before they get approved to be sold (heat tests, cold tests, etc) and it's really fun! I wouldn't recommend it to little kids but it's a great thrill for teens and adults! The line can have a tendency to be long so plan accordingly! hint: if you want to move through the line faster, get in the "riding by yourself" line with your group. 9 times out of 10 you will still end up sitting with someone with your party and you will get through the line faster!

Test Track

Where you MUST eat: Rose and Crown Pub and Dining Room
This place is the best. It greatly resembles England and has some of the best English food I've tasted state-side. You can choose to eat outside or inside and they have some MAD fish and chips. That's what I have every time I go there. Also, if you go there for dinner (like around 8pm) you should select to eat outside so that you have a better view of the fireworks which I will talk about next :)

Rose & Crown Dining Room

What you MUST see: IllumiNations
The IllumiNations fireworks. Words can't even describe the amazing-ness of these fireworks. I love watching them and they are just absolutely fantastic. You have to see it to believe it. Plus, watching the fireworks while eating dinner? Priceless.

IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth

MGM Studios
What you MUST do: Muppet Vision 3-D
If you are a huge puppet fan like I am, you will greatly appreciate this 3-D adventure with them. It's so much fun and very interactive. Kids and adults will love it. It generally doesn't have a long line and it seats a lot of people so the wait time is not very long as all. It's a great way to relax from the heat and from walking all day but sitting down for some laughs!

Muppet Vision 3-D

Where you MUST eat: 50's Primetime Cafe
This place is so cool. It's completely engulfed in the 50's. There is no escape to it. Everything just screams 50's. The coolest part? Every table has a TV in it that plays 50's TV shows. How cool is that? The food is great and the atmosphere is just really authentic! Not too pricey and great food. :)
50's Prime Time Cafe

What you MUST see: Fantasmic!
I have only seen this once, since I normally don't stick around for the shows at MGM but it's definitely a must see. I wouldn't say it's as amazing as IllumiNations but it's worth seeing if you're at the park! Make sure to get a good spot and enjoy the magic!

Fantasmic!

Hopefully my tips will encourage you to go to Disneyworld at some point or when you go you know what to hit first! Nicole, enjoy your vacation and take tons of pictures! I'm uber jealous!

Sincerely your Disney guru,
Carmen

Remembering the Magic

Over the next few days I'll be featuring some great posts by some awesome bloggers! The theme? Disney! Lindsey from A Day in the Life of a Marine Corps Wife is making her way to Japan right now...but first she's guest blogging for me!. Read her post then make sure you check out her blog!

Nicole is planning her Disney trip and asked some girls to guest blog. I am so excited to blog about this because my husband and I just took our 2 daughters to Disney for the first time this past September. It was an unforgettable vacation for sure.

Disney is the most magical place on earth. I think everyone will agree. I had been to Disney World a few times before, So it wasn't very "magical" to me anymore. We were all having so much fun and really enjoying ourselves. It wasn't until I saw our kids dancing with all the Disney Characters in the parade...until I realized the magic through their eyes. To our girls (almost 5 and 2) they are not just men and women dressed up. They ARE Woody, Buzz, Cinderella and Belle, Aladdin and Jasmine that they are dancing with. My kids went to sleep that night dreaming of dancing with their friends from all the DVD's they watch. Sure, its fun for my husband and me. But I guess I forgot all the Magic from a child's eyes.

We had looked at going to a few different places. A cruise, Mexico etc. I am so glad we chose Disney World because I got to relive all the magic and excitement I did when I was a kid...but this time with OUR kids. Disney is a place where it's ok to be as silly as can be. That includes my "oh so tough US Marine" wearing Mickey Ears and signing along to the musicals. It also includes splurging on $10 balloons and spending the extra $3 to make that drink complete with a glowing Buzz Light Year star. It was a great week!!!

I hope Nicole and Danny have as much fun as we did. Here is a picture from our Trip!

Magic? What Magic?

Over the next few days I'll be featuring some great posts by some awesome bloggers! The theme? Disney! Up today is my bestie and newlywed, Katie,  from Like Sunshine After Rain. Read her post then make sure you check out her blog!

Disney World is all about the magic. Feeling the magic, believing in the magic, remembering the magic.

When Nicole asked me to write a guest post, I enthusiastically said "Yes!" When she told me it was about Disney, I hesitated. I didn't want everyone to think I was some crazy, can't let loose and have a good time, Disney-hating girl.

But honestly, I've been to Disney World two times and I'm not over-flowing with magic. I think I missed the fall-in-love with the magic age. I was in fifth grade the first time we went and it was just, well, eh. I knew the characters weren't real, the rides were mediocre (I'm from Pittsburgh and have been spoiled by Kennywood) and I'm not a big fan of lines, heat, sweating because you have to walk everywhere and crowds of people. The magic was lacking, at first glance, to say the least.

My brother was three or four the first time we went to Disney and was a Toy Story fanatic. The Toy Story ride has just opened in the Magic Kingdom and by some twist of fate, Scotty was allowed to ride it. It was an interactive ride, complete with 3D, which back in 1996, was pretty fancy. I don't remember who I was sitting with, but my brother was in the space ship behind me. I think he was with my mom and dad, but what I remember, as clear as day, was his giggling. For a short two or three minute ride, he was riding in a space ship, with Buzz, fighting to save the Galaxy. And there it was, the magic.

Not the same ride, but similar, in a circa 1996, way.
To me, the magic of Disney World has nothing to do with the characters or a castle. I truly believe there is a magic age to make your first trip to Disney and although I missed it, I'll make sure, if it's at all possible, that my children don't.
Disney World is all about the magic. But for me, it's about trying to hold on to that bit of magic I feel when other's feel it and believe it and are transformed by it.
A big "thank you" to Nicole for asking me to guest post. I can't wait to hear all about her trip and hope her and Danny are having an amazing time! I blog at Like Sunshine After Rain and invite ya'll to stop on over and say "Hi!"

Boy Crazy at Disney

Over the next few days I'll be featuring some great posts by some awesome bloggers! The theme? Disney! Today is the lovely Jordon  from Southern Hospitality. Read her post then make sure you check out her blog!

Wow, this whole guest blogging thing is blowing my mind! I love when my friends know more about blogger than I do, and they teach me about it. Thanks Nicole.

So I am Jordan at Southern Hospitality and I am fabulous.
Kidding Kidding.
You can be the judge, go add me!

Nicole and I go way back...to last year. I have no idea how I  found her blog, but she followed me back when I probably had like 3 followers and the beautiful friendship just bloomed!

Anyways, I am supposed to be talking about Disney World.

I have a story for you. Just stay with me, I'll try to not make it too long!

Remember when you were younger and you would go on vacation and meet boys to hang out with for the week then brag about it to friends at school?
Okay, well I never did that because I was awkward in junior high.

So..I am 13 years old and on vacation at Disney with my parents and brother.
I am wearing a pink and white volcom tank top, that I thought was so in style,
even thought I was annoyed because my mom made me buy an XL instead of a XS.
I wasn't allowed to wearing anything tight.

So we are in line for a water ride and there is a holt because it is POURING.
We didn't want to get out of line so we all wait and get to know the people in line all around us.
In front of us, of course, were these college boys on Spring Break and they start talking to me.
In front of my parents...awkward.
 I'm freaked!
They thought I was in high school. Even though I had braces and stuff (yikes).

I am being awkward, with one word answers.
Thank goodness my mom is trying to help me out by joining the conversation. I think my dad even felt bad for me.

Anyways, After about 45 minutes of chatting the rain stops and the line moves again.
Those boys end up being on the ride with us and it's one of those rides that take the pictures when you scream.

Of course I had to buy one because THOSE BOYS were in it and I just HAD to tell my friends that I had met boys on vacation and hung out with them...even if it was with my parents, in a ride line, for 45 minutes..they didn't have to know.

Thanks Disney for letting me be cool when I was 13.
Can't wait to go back though...and with my super good looking man that likes my awkwardness.

Disney Insider by Allie

Over the next few days I'll be featuring some great posts by some awesome bloggers! The theme? Disney! Today is Allie from My Marine and Me. Read her post then make sure you check out her blog!

First off, I have to thank Nicole for once again letting me do a guest post! And not only that, it is about a subject that is so near and dear to my heart... Disney! I am quite jealous of your vacation. Make sure when you and Danny are in EPCOT you stop by my old stomping ground, Innoventions, and see the Storm Struck! show.

Yup, I am a former Disney employee Cast Member. My blog originally was called Disney and Deployed, not My Marine and Me! Flashback to Spring of 2009. Ryan is due to deploy that summer, I am graduating college in a matter of months. The future is spread before me is scarily blank. One of my friends that I worked with in the scene shop of the theatre (building sets and other techie stuff) just returned from the Disney Internship and could not stop talking about it. I always loved Disney, from my first trip at the age of five on. I went to Disneyland when I was one but that doesn't count. It didn't lose it's magic at 14 when I went to Disneyland Paris, or at 15 when we went back to Disney World for my little brother's five year old trip. Or when I was 18 and went back on Spring Break. Sensing a trend here? So I began to look into it...

And I applied. And I got accepted. Initially I was to leave in June but Ryan was deploying in July. Panic! I call my recruiter, yes she was called my recruiter and explained the situation, suddenly I can go at the end of August. My heart broke in July when Ryan left for Iraq, but I was going to weather out the deployment at the Happiest Place on Earth! I would be there until January with my program and Ryan was due home in February, perfect!

Jump ahead again to August. I am working in Attractions (aka rides basically) but I got a better deal. Instead of telling people to fasten their safety belts I am placed in Innoventions at EPCOT. As my recruiter told me, "We thought with your theatre background you would like a speaking role. Since this does involve extra work with memorizing and performing you will be paid more and you are indoors." I heard performing, extra money and indoors and said yes not quite knowing what I agreed to! Indoors in Orlando in August = Air Conditioning. I am not a fool!

(My costume was pretty lame. Not gonna lie.)

I basically presented three shows throughout my time at Innoventions. All were on the educational/scientific side. I did StormStruck, Don't Waste It, and Where's the Fire? Since Innoventions closed at 7pm and the park was generally open later, if you had a closing shift you worked Fireworks Crowd Control for Illuminations: Reflections of Earth... which is the show my now husband proposed to me during! Ryan came back from Iraq early and came to visit me.

Now I am sure this is not the stuff you're all interested in. You want the behind the scenes stuff! The perks! Well, I can tell you a lot... and some I can't. I do want to preserve the magic (: But I will tell you some things!

(Patrick, Karli and I enjoying a day in Magic Kingdom)

One, Disney treats their employees (including poorly paid interns) very well. Interns don't earn a lot, but we do get housing included in our pay as well as a bus system that will take you anywhere from the apartments to any parks, Downtown, or even Walmart! I had my car, but the bus made it easy when I didn't want to deal with driving. At Christmas, it rocks to work at Disney. We get this massive coupon book with everything from free popcorn and sodas to one 30%, 40%, and 50% coupon to the restaurants of our choice. We also get five days of four free passes for friends and family to visit. We get a normal 20% or so discount year round on almost everything, but during the holidays it is 50%!! Plus the coupons. Kind of rocks. Plus on my days off I could go to any park I wanted, for free. I spent many a day off running around with my fellow cast mates at all of the parks.

(I went through it daily!)

Two, yes there are tunnels in the parks. I was expecting more of a murky torchlight castle type thing, but sadly they are cement and white walled with fluorescent lights and piped in music. The EPCOT tunnels were my best friend when I was training and learning my scripts. They only go under the Futureworld section of the park, or the front, as the World Showcase has a road that goes behind the entire thing (with a bus) so there was no need for tunnels there. I would pace end to end reciting my scripts and avoiding forklifts and characters walking around half dressed. The Magic Kingdom tunnels I went into once and never again. They are HUGE. Like... every corner had a map saying *You Are Here* on it. I saw Aladdin and Jasmine bickering while Aladdin packed his backpack, Pooh and Tigger 1 shifting with Pooh and Tigger 2 while the Haunted Mansion Cast members were in make up.... it was crazy!

(Chip and I at the Garden Grill)

Three, even though I was 22 years old I could not help but gasp the first time I saw a character without their head on. It was day three of training in the tunnels and I saw Chip and Dale walking, but carrying their heads. And one was a girl! Oh the genders of the characters... the illusion! The seven year old inside me cried. Especially once when I went up the stairs after that and saw the next set of Chip and Dale fully dressed and ready to go outside. Once a character has their head on, backstage or onstage, they are silent. It is pretty strict. By the way, behind the scenes Disney is called Backstage, i the park is called Onstage. We're not employees, we're cast members. The instant we are onstage, whether we are a member of custodial staff, food and beverage, attractions, or Mickey himself, we are in character. They were very serious about this. Rightly so.

(Intern Graduation Day)

Four, Mickey nine times out of ten is a girl. Mickey and Minnie are always 5'1'' and shorter, so more often than not they are female. Donalds are about there too but you can usually tell by their calves if they are or not... Queen of Hearts is always male as they have to be at least six feet tall to wear the costume. There is a whole breakdown. To learn more about being a character see my horrifying experience at my one Disney Character Audition. Mind you I did a face audition only (like for Princesses vs a Fur audition which are masked) but still... Talk about humiliating!

(Thanksgiving in the Cast Member Cafeteria... only .99!)

Five, yes sometimes it did suck to work there. Like on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, or New Years Eve. As an intern they owned me. Period. But we made it fun for one another. We had the days it was wicked hot and humid, or even freezing cold as it got towards the end of my time there. We had guests that would have "protein spills" (aka vomit) or would complain or just make your day tough, but you know what? Seeing a little girl walk by dressed like Cinderella or a little boy glowing because he got to sword fight with Captain Hook made my day better. Always.

(Some of the best people ever! I do miss my fellow Cast Mates.)

Six, never go on New Years Eve. Ever.

(Backstage at work! Love the view.)

Seven, sometimes if you are lucky you see celebrities. Tyra Banks came to EPCOT as did one of the players from the Giants when I was there. Johnny Depp randomly comes to Disney and plays Jack Sparrow in the parks, especially for the parades. He did it for Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party the year I was there! Sadly I missed him.

(Backstage at Fantasmic with my Entertainment Class, on Steamboat Willie's boat!)

Eight, The best times to go to Disney are as follows. After Labor Day weekend to before Thanksgiving... the big chunk I worked there. After the summer rush when kids go back to school and before the holidays the parks are empty. I never waited longer than ten minutes for any ride. Also January through Spring Break is pretty good too (so I have heard) if you avoid long weekend holidays like Presidents Day. But even those are not like in the summer or the holiday rush.

(Team BroWo at Disney Quest night, for free! Don and Patrick were a bromance, Karli and I were a womance. I miss these three the most.)

Nine. Crazy things can happen to you when you work there. My friend was a hostess at a restaurant in the Contemporary Resort. One night Mickey got tackled by an overly large ten year old who knew better... her head hit the tile and she blacked out. In costume. On stage. Some how Pluto and Goofy got her up and into another room away from the kids. Problem, Mickey went into the closet, Mickey had to come out. So another Mickey was rushed over as was an ambulance, got dressed in the closet, and re-emerged. Seriously.

(Kayla, Karli and I in our tiaras!)

and Ten. You cannot help but be a kid again. I will admit, I got myself a tiara to wear in Magic Kingdom. I hugged characters, took pictures with them, and got them to sign a canvas bag I carried around. You wear the celebration button pins on your days off. You collect the pins and trade in the parks. In infects you. You hum the theme songs as you walk through different sections, you can recite the monorail greetings, you wear a Mickey watch... it happens.

I have to say, I loved working there. The only reason I ever would have left was the reason I did.

My husband. I knew I had to make a choice, and Ryan was worth giving up a dream job. I have never once regretted it. I still talk to my old cast mates, two were even at my wedding. Disney will always have a special place in my heart, and who knows? Maybe if Ryan gets stationed in Southern California I can always give Disneyland a try....

Thanks for reading! It got much longer than I planned, but Disney does that to you!! If you want to read more, head over to my blog and feel free to read any entries from August 2009 - January 2010... I got plenty more! (:

The Goose flies to Disneyland

Over the next few days I'll be featuring some great posts by some awesome bloggers! The theme? Disney! Up first is Sarah from Confessions of a Sailor's Wife. Read her post then make sure you check out her blog!

Well, we didn't actually fly - we drove 8 hours to get there. One day we decided very last minute that we would accompany my sister and her boyfriend to Disneyland during Spring Break. Goose had just turned 2 and she was obsessed with Mickey Mouse Club house, so it was pretty much perfect.

We left after Sailor Man (who was just man at this point, not yet a sailor) got off work and drove all night from blistery Northern Nevada to sunny and bright Southern California. I know Goose didn't know what was going on, but she was definitely excited to be there.

We wondered in past the front gate and into our first stop. A store to buy milk

Who needs to pay for a ticket when you can swing from the banisters?! After we got the milk and we finally were all settled in and ready to start our day, we hit the lines. Unfortunately, it was not only Spring Break for us but for all of California as well; and so we were stuck with the lines. Goose was a champ and waited patiently. Poor little girl - had no idea what was going to happen on "Mr. Toads Wild Ride"..

Happy...
 hmm...
 What the what!?
 nightmare city..

Naturally, the only thing that clams a child is love and comfort from her parents right? Wrong. It would be Mickey Mouse shaped ice cream.

After that first experience on a "real" ride we chose to stay on the safer, brighter, rides from then on. Dumbo, the Carousel, Dumbo, Peter Pan, the Carousel... Going to Disneyland with your child brings back the excitement I had when I was a child. You see it in a whole new way, everything is new and real to them. Everything is amazing. There is something about Disneyland that when you walk through that front gate you leave your cares of the world behind. You transform into a carefree adult, and when you add a child into that mix it truly is the "Happiest Place on Earth".

We went again this last November with my parents (Sailor Man was deployed) and while the experience was different with an older child (3 1/2), one thing remains the same

Mickey Mouse ice cream is the only thing that matters.

All Because Two People Fell in Love

For the next few days I'll be featuring some of my favorite bloggers. I asked them one simple question, "Where do you see you and your husband in fifty years?" Feel free to leave your answer in the comments...I'd love to feature your comments in a post later!

Tonight's guest blogger is Jennifer, from Colwells in Carolina, and my good friend!. After reading her guest post, make sure you show her some love over at her blog. Thank you Jennifer!

My blog is Colwells in Carolina, all about our newlywed, marine corps adventure here in North Carolina! Sit back, relax, and enjoy a message from the future, of where my hubby and I might be on our 50th wedding anniversary...

The Colwells: A Fairytale Romance
50th Anniversary Announcement, February 14, 2060

Dustin and Jennifer met in 2003, while they both worked at Macaroni Grill back home in Georgia. They started dating the end of Jennifer's senior year of high school, and had their share (and some to spare) of ups and downs, break-ups and make-ups over the course of the next several years. They were married on February 14, 2010 in a beautiful beach ceremony in Florida.

At their rehearsal dinner, Jenn and Dustin set up a prediction jar. Family and friends predicted where the couple would be 10 years from the wedding day. The answers were hilarious, touching, and insightful and wrapped into one. They ranged from: 2 kids, white picket fence, Jenn teaching and Dustin working as a cop -- to 4 daughters and a female dog, so Dustin would forever be surrounded by women -- to a drawing of a ninja. (Hoping that last one was from the ring bearer, and not the groom!)

Dustin was a Marine, and stationed in North Carolina. They entered a phase known as "Colwells in Carolina". Jenn was happy to have a job as a kindergarten teacher, and Dustin was advancing his career in the USMC. Dustin stuck with the military, retiring eventually and beginning a second career as a teacher, still in North Carolina. The Colwells enjoyed their summers off, spending their time traveling to all 50 states with their 3 children, and even seeing a baseball game in every Major League Baseball Stadium (and saving the ticket stubs to prove it).

They set high expectations for their children, who all went on to attend and graduate college. Once their children all graduated college, Jennifer and Dustin celebrated by spending a year traveling the world. At the age of 60, both Jenn and Dustin retired from their careers as teachers, to instead spend their time visiting and spoiling grandchildren, watching sunsets from rocking chairs on a long wrap-around porch, and finally sleeping in on the weekdays! They celebrate their 50th anniversary, surrounded by children and grandchildren who have traveled from near and far to appreciate just how powerful and enduring true love can be! The happy couple's advice to others is to never go to bed mad, follow the golden rule, and listen to the song "All Because Two People Fell in Love" by Brad Paisley, just to get a picture of how big one couple's love can be.

Thanks for letting me guest blog, Nicole, and thank you all for reading!

I Want that Award

For the next few days I'll be featuring some of my favorite bloggers. I asked them one simple question, "Where do you see you and your husband in fifty years?" Feel free to leave your answer in the comments...I'd love to feature your comments in a post later!

Today's guest blogger is Kaylee from Devil Dog Darling. After reading her guest post, make sure you show her some love over at her blog. Thank you Kaylee!
I want to say a big thank you to Nicole for allowing me to guest post for her while she is away to celebrate such a wonderful occasion.

Her grandparent’s 50th wedding anniversary! I mean how wonderful and exciting is that? I must wish them all of the congratulations that I can and many more years for them to celebrate.

I look forward to the day that Jacob and I can stand with all of our children, grandchildren, family and friends to celebrate half a century of life shared together.

Honestly right now, I am wondering...
What Jacob and I will look like?
How many kids will we have?
What about grand children, or even great grandchildren?
Wow, the rest of my life with the same person?

The day Jacob and I were married was probably the happiest day of my life.

(Now I think the happiest day was when he learned that age old saying... "Happy wife Happy life!)

Gosh was I nervous

At the time, we didn't think it was ever going to happen.

Jacob was stationed in North Carolina and I was living in Virginia.

It took a month to get the marriage license.

Then my car was totaled.

I couldn't get down there to get married.

I cried for days.

The day we had planned came and went and I was still not his Mrs. Yet.

My boss became my angel (then kicked me in the teeth a month later).

She loaned me her car and gave me a day off of work so I could go marry my best friend.

I was shaking most of the drive (4 hours have never gone by so slow)

On one of my many rest stops (I have an over active bladder when I get nervous, TMI?) I was approached my a biker (who quite frankly, scared the snot out of me when he knocked on my window) who asked me if I was a Jarhead? (from the stickers on the car, my boss's son was a marine as well)

I replied that my soon-to-be Husband was and I was going to marry him that day. I received congratulations from him, his wife and all of the other riders that he shouted it to, so loudly that the whole parking lot stopped and stared.
He told me, “The best thing in life is sharing it with someone you care for more than yourself.”

Skip to the vows.  We finally made it to the court house and I was practically bouncing. We had no witnesses (that we knew, they were random nice people that we asked to stand there for us, our original witnesses backed out) and no white dress or dress blues, but we had fire in our hearts and were so happy and confident in our decision.

As Jacob started reciting his vows to me tears came to my eyes, (and I swore I wouldn’t cry!) until he started to stutter
For some reason..
he could not get out the line that stated he would be faithful!!
I wasn't sure if I should be irritated of laugh... I smacked him and he spit it out, the justice of the peace gave me a nasty look..but

At that point, I burst out laughing and we laughed our way through the rest of it.

What an amazing feeling shot through me when I kissed my husband for the first time!  I knew that I didn't need fancy, or a dress or a uniform, I had the man with the heart!

Now, I am sitting here and wondering about 50 years later (technically 49, we’ve been married a year).

I see us bickering just the same as we always have!

I see us living in South Carolina, I have always loved it there, In a house like this

With a family like this, hopefully bigger!

spending our days doing this

I can't wait to see where life takes us, but I will cherish each and every moment along the way to 50 years, and then

I hope I have a big stinkin party where I get to wear a dress and have a cake and have my family come in from every where...

I mean come on now..

50 years with the same man,

Don't you get an award or a gold medal for not killing him by that point?
