Peyote Stitch Hair-Wrap Accessories

Making peyote hair-wrap accessories is easy and fun. Making a hair-wrap accessory for every outfit can be done in a snap.

http://beadwork.about.com/od/beadingstitchtutorials/ss/Tubular_Odd_Count_Peyote_5.htm

Taking a small round like a small pencil or other smaller round object (for smaller bunches of hair), or if you are a really advanced peyote stitch-er nothing at all, will make a small round you can fit over your hair-wrap. It is important to slide it over a hair-wrap or have a clamped bead beneath it so it stays in place.

Making a small round of any color combination or small pattern can be done easily but one must remember not to make it too long. The more hair should be pulled through the round, the shorter it should be (pencil thick 1 – 1 ½ in.).

Using a tool like a crochet hook will make it easy to pull the hair through the bead work easily and once in place, look stunning in your hair.

Peyote Stitch Pool Ques

Making peyote stitch pool ques covers for your friends and loved ones is a great gift idea. This can be very fashionable and show off your sense of style and flair. Matching your pool que to your own style is much more fashionable than having a regular, mass produced version.

http://www.msrachel.com/thejewelryworkshop/media/about/blog.htm

Start by sewing a scrap of any think material around your pool ques handle. This will keep the beads in place after the design is created. The best material to do this with is a nice soft medium to thick piece of leather but other soft materials can be used as a substitute.

Starting your design at the largest width of the que and working toward the smaller end. When the design starts to fit loosely you should drop one bead and repeat the step on the next line.

This will allow for the design to flawlessly slim down toward the end of the handle.

An important tip to always remember about beading is, strings and new design patterns or styles an be added after the bulk of the piece is created. If you have a stunning choker sized flat peyote piece, you can make it trendy and hip with some colored bead strings with large beads or even gems and pearls at the end.

If you have some rounds of a pencil size that you would like to make into some trendy dangling earrings, you can add a four-way string set that connects at one and for hanging and add as many dangles of any length to the other end.

Peyote Stitching for Intermediate Bead-ers

If you have been doing other forms of bead work you may not need to start anxious about this being the right project. Beads and thread work in the same way for all beading projects.

http://thisyearsdozen.wordpress.com/tag/beadwork/page/2/

Go ahead and print out a grid for making peyote beading patterns found here [1]: http://shala.addr.com/beads/resources/graphpaper/peyotegraph.gif .

Once you have your graph paper you can begin to make your design on it. Start with something simple until you get the idea of how peyote stitching goes.

http://www.rubysbeadwork.com/ReadingPeyotePatterns.html

Always start your design a few lines under the starting line of the graph to represent the ides to never start a design in the first line.

This can cause the design to get messed up in the creation process. Once you have done the original string of beads and the secondary placement (the first beads done one by one) you will have your starter and can begin your own creative and original design.

Getting Started Peyote Stitching

To get started peyote stitching you will need a few very specific things. Finding beads of the right size and color you want is important, but so is having the right needle.

http://prickandstitch.ismycraft.com/stitching-techniques/beading-needles-for-prick-and-stitch-card-making/

If you do not have the right needle and thread you will not be able to complete the project. This may even seem to work for a while, but can become very frustrating when it stops doing so in the middle of a great looking project you have spent hours on.

http://beadwork.about.com/od/otherresources/tp/knots_used_in_beadwork.htm

This project is almost meditative because it is slow and something you must force yourself to be patient with. Having the right beads, needle, and thread is all you need to make a beautiful piece of flat peyote stitch work.

Tools that can commonly make the job easier are bees wax, needle nose pliers, and a piece of thick rubber or flush sided leather scrap (for grabbing the needle and getting it to pull through the hole).
