Winner and Your Color IQ...

Congrats to Viki who FINALLY was able to correctly guess the plan for my giant stash of fabric...a duvet cover! This French Lagoon button is on its way to her.... I'm sure it would have helped your guesses if I would have told you that there's 12 yards of the fabric (math error...should have only bought 6 yards but I wanted to make it reversible and listened to the fabric store employee who cut 6 yards of each fabric rather than 3 of each). Needless to say, there will be accent pillows happening as well!

Thank you so much to everyone who commented with their opinion on glazed vs unglazed button backs...You definitely reinforced my usual button/pendant back glazing habits so I will continue to do so (even though it can be quite a bugger at times). There were 20 different commenters for the giveaway so courtesy of random.org here is the winner....drum roll please....

#9 which belongs to Michelle Mach! Congrats Michelle!! I'll send you an email today so we can figure out what you'd like to claim for your prize!

I leave you with a fun little task for the weekend...
Check out the Color IQ test, where you organize color chips by hue to determine how accurately you perceive slight color differences. If you miss any it gives you a breakdown of the areas where you have more difficulty discriminating between the hues. Not that I'm competitive or anything (cough, cough) but I did happen to get a perfect score :) The hubster scored 15. Try it and let me know how you did!

Oodles of Bracelet Bars...

Ok, not really oodles but quite a few! Also glazed back buttons and a couple of Big Circle connectors. These guys will be on the website tomorrow evening.

You still have time to enter the giveaway from my last post...I can't believe it but no one has guessed what I have planned for my fabric!

a new monday giveaway -

this is a signed copy of sherry serafini's book donated to us by jen!

i am still tallying up the books that you said you most treasured and will be sharing those results soon...

how many of you work with seed beads? and if you haven't, do you see a new way to work them into your projects if you think outside of the box?

leave a comment to be entered... the winner will be announced next monday!

Feeling Lucky?

I just noticed that I now have reached 200 followers on my blog! How cool is that?! So in celebration I think we need a giveaway! I have a kiln load of bisque toasting away right now...some made to order items and a whole shwack of buttons. I'll let the winner choose from pendants, buttons or a pair of earrings...but no peeks of the choices until after my glaze firing is all done so you'll just have to trust me it's worth the time of a comment :)

So maybe for an entry to win you could help me out with a dilemma I have... do you prefer buttons to be be glazed on the back or left as smooth bare clay (or no preference at all)? In the past I have not glazed the back of my buttons... unlike most of my pendants and charms. I'll choose a random commenter next Saturday, the 16th for the giveaway.

I found this lovely fabric this week for a particular project I have in mind...how about more giving away of goodies? Want a chance to win one of the buttons from this firing? The first person to correctly guess what I have planned for this mix of fabrics will get one of the buttons.

Hope your weekend is wonderful!

final day

Why I Love Giveaways (& a winner!)

I love a good giveaway. And to my surprise sometimes I actually win them! Now that I think about it...I have a giveaway item in every room of the house. A CSN Stores lamp in the living room, CSN Stores kitchen gadgets, a decorative container from Mrs. Superman in my bathroom, and now...in my bedroom from A Turn for the Nurse....

She gave away a $50 gift card to Amazon...and I was in need of new bedding. It came in the mail the other day but I'm not putting it on the bed until all the spring cleaning is done! It's so springy and clean...and I love it! Thanks so much!

Now I'm crossing my fingers that I win the CSN Stores giveaway over at the Kendra Diaries!

Did you enter the Live.Love.Scents Scentsy giveaway? If you didn't you missed out on a great deal! The winner of the plug-in warmer and two scents of their choosing is....

Jessica from Learning as We Go!
(I'm e-mailing you right now!)

Thank you to everyone who entered! If you didn't enter you still need Scentsy in your home! Go shop NOW!

BOC Open House Today!

I have participated in the Beads of Clay Open Studio in the past but things are a little different this time around...for this event I'm going to participate as a static poster instead of having multiple posts throughout the afternoon. Don't you worry, there is still the chance to enter to win but instead of having you bounce to and from my post you can read at your leisure.

Entries for the random drawing for this floral lagoon lentil bead will be closed at midnight PST on March 6th. Just comment on the post for your chance (make sure you leave me an email address to contact you!).As an extra bonus for everyone who stops by during the event, I am offering a 15% discount off everything on my website during the open house. Just enter the code spring11 at checkout and your discount will be calculated automatically. Don't delay, this offer ends at midnight and there's only one of most items available!

So without further ado, I will share a little new work with you as well as some new studio developments...

Actually first, something old...well it's new to me but clearly has some miles on it! Talk about serendipity, when I selected the electrician to wire my new big daddy kiln I had no idea that it would turn out that his wife used to dabble in ceramics...and he had an old potter's wheel in his backyard that he was very motivated to get rid of! It certainly needs some cleaning and it's not high tech by any stretch of the imagination but it works, the belts are in good shape and it was FREE!

The new is the shiny digital fantabulous kiln that is now wired into that big honkin' power box on the wall! Part of the reason I chose to do the static post today for the open house is so that I'm not distracted while doing the inaugural firing with it. Here it is this morning all vacuumed out and empty...
Loaded with a freshly "kiln wash" covered shelves so things don't stick and ruin the shelf surface and orton cones that bend at particular temperatures so I can check that the temperature is correct (you can't trust the digital readout or firing by time, only the bend of the cones will truly tell you what temperature your kiln has reached).

Now some recent work since it's going to take me a while to fill that big space! (luckily I still have my baby kiln that is good for small, quick firings)

I finally included some more loopy linky circles in a firing again...
These zinnia connectors have received a little press lately...Lorelei used one in my lagoon glaze for a necklace in the new book Wire Style 2!

Since this is our spring event, what do I love about spring? Well, living in Southern California I have the benefit of seeing things like this most of the year... but nothing beats the return of full blooms in the spring! Enjoy the studio tours, don't forget to comment for your chance to win and swing by the BOC blog for a chance at a big batch of goodies from all the participants!

Lots of Sponsor Love!

LMAJ Bracelet Giveaway....

This week, we will be giving this very cool bracelet made by me (MaryAnn Carroll).

Lots of Pics....  I know....

My biggest struggle lately is learning to take pictures of completed jewelry.  I've checked other shops..... I've checked in magazines.... I've checked blogs.... but I'm still struggling....

Todays comment request is that you leave a tip (or a struggle) that you have while photographing jewelry.  If you are a buyer ....  and don't sell .... what types of things in the pictures on Etsy, Artfire or elsewhere are appealing to you when you are shopping for jewelry, beads, etc.

As always ....  if you share this post on facebook, twitter, blogs or other places on the internet, leave a separate comment letting us know that!  Thanks a bunch!  Name will be chosen at random on Monday,  March 7th....  WOW!  2011 is flying by!!!

This bracelet was made with my porcelain beads.  The chain (have no idea where I purchased it) was given a light patina effect using a torch (purchased from Barbara Lewis).  The clasp was created using 16 gauge copper wire.

**The bracelet can be sized for the individual winner**

Winner of the bead giveaway....

is.......

Michelle Wiggins!!

Please contact me (MaryAnn Carroll) with your address so that I can ship them out!!

~thank-you for buying and creating handmade~

celebrate... think spring...

by MaryAnn Carroll

happy thoughts.... good times... sunny days... warm winds...  stay current...  all DONE!

Those are just a few of the thoughts that passed through my brain while I was fighting against the elements to get the finishing touches on our website completed before today.

I know...you're asking, "elements?"

Why, I just have an answer to explain that....  or, perhaps, I will share some of those thoughts too....

blasted snow!  darn satellite internet connection!  ughhh!  I'll try again later!  ughhh!  who predicted a snowstorm? will it ever be warm again?  ughhh!

You get the picture.  Although I do love living in Central, New York and could never really understand why others who were raised around this area would leave; I was ready to pack it up yesterday and head for some warmer winds, sunshine and any pretty much any place where the internet would stay connected!

Today, however, everything is calm, light falling snow, travel is back to normal, driveway needs to be plowed...  thank-you, Bill :O)

And....  our already new website has received a MAKEOVER!  That is one word, right?

To help us with our 5 month, 6 day, 2 hour anniversary....

You could WIN....  yes WIN.... these, might I say, very cool ceramic, spring themed, (they're actually all-season beads... but today, we are thinking Spring) by just heading on over to our website and signing the guestbook.  I'm even going to make this very easy for you.....

Click HERE.  Then, when you get there, please and I am saying, "please," sign our guestbook.  And this time, just let us know whatever comes to mind after cruising through and checking out the various artwork displayed.

Also....

for those of you who love to conversate (that is a new word that I learned on Judge Judy yesterday),  feel free to throw your two cents in on the blog too!  We LOVE all you conversators!

But, I'm refusing ~ harsh, I know :O(

to bounce back and forth and figure out who has signed where.  The winner will be chosen from the guestbook on the website.

The winner (chosen at random next Sunday) will win these....

So, if you like them....  and, please keep your conversating to yourself if you don't ;o)

head on over to the website and start yackin'!

Love,

MaryAnn

Look at the Fabulous Bag I Won!

Catching up on my winnings to share with you. This past holiday season I entered a contest to win a fabulous bag made by Moka Designs. The giveaway was hosted by Handmade is Fun! She has really cool bag designs in fabrics for anyone. Like gothic? Like Teen Punk? Pin up Girls nostalgia? She's got it! You've got to check out her shop.

I got to pick a bag. I chose this fun lime green, yellow bag. I wanted something fun and funky. This bag has storage galore! I've decide to make it my traveling jewelry bag. The side pockets are great for my tools. And the big, roomy inside is perfect to slide my design board and bead containers in. Love the magnetic closure as well. Head over to her shop and find your new craft bag. Great gift idea too.

It's that TIME!!!

What time?  LMAJ Monday Giveaway time, of course!!

Barbara Lewis is offering something very cool and most certainly unique....

These are enamel pendants or charms that are 5/8" at their widest point.
The image of the eye is from a 1935 Montgomery Ward catalog advertising mascara.
I, myself, might even consider creating earrings from them!

Giveaway Winner!

Quick post to say that the lucky CSN stores giveaway winner is.... Artisan Clay! Congrats and check your email for instructions on how to use your gift code. Let us know what you decide to use it on!

Looks like my fabric goodies won't arrive until Monday so I won't have any sewing end results to show you for at least another week (and the handbag will take much longer than that!).

There are a few new goodies set to show up on the website today if I can get around to prepping the pictures...not much excuse if I don't get it done...the only other items on the agenda today are a quick run and dinner with friends.

I took a little leap this week and contacted a shop that sent out a notice that they have some space opening up Feb 1st. It's been a few days and I've received no response so I'm a little bummed out. When I sent the email I was a bit ambivalent about it but as the week has progressed I've realized how interested I actually was... I suppose there's still a chance they might respond but I think it's more likely that they had other (better for them) options. Now I'm wondering if I should send one follow up message or just let it go as not meant to be...
Any suggestions?

Plans and Projects...

The last couple weeks have been on the hectic and busy side- I feel like I've been trying to cram in more than usual...although that has also included fun time with friends and fitting in a short run every couple of days (only because I can't do a long run yet!). For that reason, not a whole lot of new work has resulted from me in the last few days...but I have been glazing, and enough to fire the kiln today so there will be some restocking of the website happening this week.

So even though there's not so much new from me, I have a knockout bracelet to share made by Dawn of Northern Adornments... I love that she was able to find a matte finish wire for her Viking Knit to pair with the Spruce bracelet bar. Check out how perfect that weave is!

Despite my busy bee-ness this week I have managed to spend endless chunks of time fabric hunting online. After my visit to the wonderful fabric/yarn/book/gift shop a couple of weeks ago with my neighbor where I picked up some super funky fabric, I decided that I needed to dust off the sewing machine again. The amazing fabric (which I can't find a pic of online so you'll just have to wait for the finished product!) is destined for a super cute apron using this pattern... I think I might change up the pocket a bit and go for a smaller, side pocket instead of a large centered one though. Also while at The Grove, I discovered Amy Butler's Style Stitches book with the most adorable mix of handbag patterns.

I was so smitten with this particular bag...that I decided to take a huge leap of faith in my novice sewing skills and give it a shot! I chose this amazing peacock pattern for the outside of the bag... and this pretty design for the interior. The bag pattern includes dividers to keep everything organized inside so I'll be using a nice grass green in the background color of the interior fabric. The biggest challenge was finding home decor fabrics that I loved in the same online shop as the trim fabric for my apron! The purse fabric is a little trickier to locate as it needs to be 54" wide instead of the usual quilting/apparel width of 44-45". Luckily I was able to find what I needed at Fabric.com...although I still need to pick up the supporting materials for the handbag. I may have to procrastinate on it for a little while though to work up the nerve!

Just a quick reminder that my CSN stores contest is still running until Thursday so if you haven't entered, hop over to that post to comment!

Woo Hoo for Giveaways!!!

I promised a giveaway and this one is a doozy! The wonderful folks at CSN Stores have offered a $45 gift certificate code for use at any of their shops...CSN Stores has over 200 online stores where you can find anything you need whether it be swingsets, fitness equipment, or even cute cookware!

Now this would certainly exceed the $45 gift certificate but could you imagine having this storage system to hold all your beads?

Actually, I might need to start saving up for that sucker!

A more immediate use of $45 would be this awesome 10 roll colored masking tape set and dispenser...have I mentioned my deep-seated love of stationary and home office products?

Unfortunately I prefer to hoard such things, tucked safely away so I can pull them out to admire every now and then...

Anyhoo, you're probably wondering how you can get the $45 for yourself (or perhaps you're wondering how you can win it so you can buy me the tape dispenser?)...either way, it's as easy as easy can be...no skill testing questions, no mandatory following (because you know who you are and you'll just unfollow after the winner is announced, won't you?) and no need to promise me your undying gratitude if you're the winner. Just leave me a comment on this post before noon PST on Thursday, January 27th. If you'd like to say something nice I'll think you're a lovely person but it won't improve your chances of winning. I'll use a random number generator to choose the winner.

**Please make sure your email address is in your comment or that you have email responses approved in your Blogger profile** If you win and I don't have an email address within one mouse click, I will draw another winner.

*Open to residents of the US and Canada only...sorry international folks, but CSN does not ship elsewhere at this time*

This giveaway is sponsored by CSN stores. I have received no monetary compensation for hosting the giveaway and the opinions of the items above are my own.

Good luck to all!
