We Have A Winner

Well, majority rules!  I have chosen from the last giveaway post who the winner will be.  I transferred every entry onto a piece of paper and drew the name.  I apologize to those who voted to draw from the original post, I don't mean to offend.  Had I drawn from the original post, the original posters may not have seen that I was resetting the giveaway and quite frankly, I do not have time to chase the winner down...especially since they didn't even know there was a reset on the giveaway!

So....here's the winner:

Jane Campbell!!!

Okay...here's the deal - Jane, contact me with your email address by Sunday morning.  If I do not hear from the winner by Sunday 31 July, I will draw another name, so keep checking back until I confirm the winner has contacted me.

The contacts and prize must be sent by Saturday of next week because I am leaving for a 2 WEEK VACATION on Monday morning, 9 August!  Yup...I'm going to see my mom in North Carolina!!  It will take me two days to drive there, I will be spending a week with mom and dad at their house.....and for the best part:  Dad has rented a house on the ocean shores of Oak Island for a WEEK...we are talking the beach front here, folks!!!!

I can't wait - I love the ocean so much, I have a mini-ocean in my family room!  My coral reef tank I have posted about in the past.  I have never had the opportunity to spend so long at the ocean, I am not passing this up!  Therefore, the prize has to get mailed before I leave.  In addition, I am doing custom jewelry sets for a wedding party of 5, a custom order of 9 pieces of button jewelry for the editor of a popular garden journal in my area and finishing a 60" x 60" quilt for a woman to give to her daughter that just got back from Afghanistan (she's a medic in the Air Force).  Plus working the evening away making 1940's dresses to wear during the vacation.  Whew - it sure is busy here.  Hubby is getting lonely with the hours I have been in my studio this past week!

So the race is on!  Thank you to everyone who commented :)

Remember These? A Giveaway...

I finally got a hold of the winner who was going to email me her address.  Well, I never heard from her again.  This has never happened before.  Therefore, I have a little situation on my hands and need your help!

I have two options, in which you will help me decide what to do:

1)  Draw another number from the comments on the original giveaway.  Drawback will be that most of the people who entered think someone else already won, therefore, they may not get back to this site to see that they won in the second draw...

OR

2) Choose a random number from the comments on this post.

Here is how we will do this....Majority Rules.  If more than 50% of comments believe we should choose from the original comments, we will do so.  If more than 50% of comments believe we should draw from comments on this post, I will draw randomly from comments on this post.

So....to enter, simply comment which option you think I should take.
To earn another entry - in case we use these comments, simply follow this blog (or indicate that you already do)
To earn yet another entry, "Like" my FaceBook Page

I will close the voting July 29, 2010 at Midnite, EST.

Please be sure to comment separately for each one you do.  (Nevermind the comment moderation...I do that so that spammers can't spam my older posts!)

Okay...decide away!!!!

Winner Announcement!

I am so sorry for the delay...Mom has been keeping me ultra-busy!  I know you have been waiting for this moment....

...which makes Laurel the winner!

Laurel, please contact me with your address before Thursday to claim your prize...otherwise, I have to pick a new winner :(

Thank you so much for participating, everyone!  I'll be back at the end of the week to spill what I did with Mom while she was here.

Oh, and the family get-together went very well :)

Bead Soup Blog Party Revealing...and a Giveaway!

Time to show my Bead Soup Blog Party piece I designed using supplies sent to me from Diana of Vintage Blue Studio.  She sent me some wonderful components!

Well, here is what I designed with her pieces.....

Designing this piece was tough as I am used to working with beads smaller than 6mm and I don't usually work with gemstones.

I actually drew several designs before I settled on this one.  My first design included lots of bead embroidery around the components, but Mom is due here today from North Carolina for a week and a half stay and I had so much to do to prepare for her arrival.  This design was my design of choice, but....darn time constraints!  The second design was a blah and boring simple stringing design.  If you have been following my blog for any amount of time, you know how I get so bored with simple stringed designs (no offense...I just don't find them very challenging :)

So, I settled on the sketch using wire work and lots of chain!

Starting with the focal, Diana sent a ceramic focal that she made herself which was finished with a watercolor glaze.  This just screamed OCEAN to me!  She sent a couple Swarovski crystals with the focal in which I worked into a combined drop with one of the stones she sent along with some silver beads I had leftover from a previous project.

I am obsessed with clasping in the front as they did with a lot of Victorian locket jewelry, so I put the fabulous sterling silver clasp she sent....in the front :)  Of course, the waves reminded me of the ocean, too!

The design is asymmetrical (another thing I have been obsessed with, lately).  The left side of the piece is constructed of wire work, delicate chain and some of the larger blue stones used in the focal.

The right side consists of two strands:  One wire work with chain, One with intermittent strung sections with wire work and chain.  This side contains the buttons Diana sent, as well as pieces of stone to balance the piece.  I did add some green quartz that I had for the strung sections.

As I said before, this was definitely a challenge for me, but I am pretty pleased with how it all came together :)

Now for the Giveaway!

I made a pair of earrings with the left-over components which you have a chance at winning, both bead soupers and non-bead soupers alike!  Entering is easy...just comment below!  Follow this blog and earn another entry, just please comment separately for another entry or indicate that you are already following.  Also, blog about this giveaway and the blog party to get three more entries - be sure to comment three times with the URL!

BE SURE TO COMMENT SEPARATELY FOR EACH ENTRY!!!

Winner will be chosen at random from all the entries (comments).  Enter until Saturday, June 26 at midnight EST...winner will be announced Sunday, June 27!

Good luck!

New Prototype....Watcha Think? Help Me Name It!

I wanted to have these ready for spring....well, you know how it goes!

A travel mug cozy. Should be named "Don't burn your hand" cozy!

They were crocheted using super-soft baby yarn (as well as the hand embroidery). And, of course, you know it has to have buttons on it! These are antique utilitarian pearl buttons.

...and you have to have the button closure!

I have been using one on my stainless steel handle-less travel mug (constantly full of peppermint tea!). My mug gets so hot because it's stainless on the outside as well as the inside and sometimes it is just too hot to pick up....hence these little babies! I love it (mine is baby green)!

So, whatcha think?
What should I call them?
I will consider any names! If I choose yours, I will send you one :) (Yes, Duni, you can try for it, too!)

Backyard Nature Photos Feature and Giveaway...

Today we will be discovering Jane of Backyard Nature Photos. Jane's work is inspired by the surroundings of her home in the woods. She offers primarily photographs and greeting cards created with the images she captures.

Bluejay Digital Watercolor Blank Greeting Card $6

Jane resides on a small piece of property nestled amost old plantations. Her love for animals encourages her to be as eco-friendly as she can, which in turn has encouraged lots of woodland animals and plants to find refuge on her property. She decided to begin capturing these images digitally and transforming them into greeting cards for her family and friends. At this point, an artist friend invited her to show her work in her small gallery where they continue to be displayed. It was also this friend who introduced her to Etsy.

Soganofa Sunrise II 8x10 $28

Jane spends about 20 hours a week on her photography which includes the usual business aspects of her Etsy shop. She states that the most satisfying part of this time is taking the actual photographs and deciding how to present them. Jane states that photography at this time of the year is very challenging with the lack of sun typical of this season. In her down time, you can find Jane entertaining Chester and Maya (her cats) or interacting with various other animals that gravitate towards her property. She amuses herself with the sense of humor she sees in the animals.

Flowers on Glass Kaleidoscope Photograph 8x10 $28

I asked Jane if she could win a free life-time account with any one supplier, who would it be? Her response? "Staples is my main squeeze". When she decides to present her art in a wearable form, she will probably seek a supplier right here on Etsy!

Accordian Journal / Greeting Card 5x7 $12

Finally, I asked Jane what her favorite part is of selling her wares during the holidays:

"My intent is to present photographs that evoke reactions/feelings. Generally, when a customer connects with one of my pieces, it's time to smile, laugh, and swap stories. That, my friends, makes it all worthwhile."

Now, on to her Giveaway....

Jane has offered her "Ultimate Greeting Card".

The accordion journal has 8 pages (16 front & back) of acid free artist paper. Room for photos, poems, personal messages ... whatever strikes your fancy. These are perfect for that special family member or friend who's too far away to join the festivities.

Each entrant can earn up to 19 entries for this greeting card.

Please make a separate comment for each entry you cast to increase your chances.
If you did 5 things and put them in one comment, you only have one entry.

Please remember to leave your email address or shop link so I can contact you if you are the winner. I DO NOT have outlook, therefore I cannot access your email through Blogger.

Comments will each be assigned a number from top to bottom. The total number of comments will be run through random.org and the comment that corresponds with the number chosen will win the greeting card!

The contest runs today through Monday, December 21, 2009. You can cast one entry, you can cast all entries...the choice is yours. The important thing is that you enter!

Entry chances:

  1. Go to Jane's Backyard Nature Photos shop on Etsy and comment here what your favorite piece is for 1 entry
  2. While you are on her Etsy shop, shoot a heart her way. Don't forget to come back here and comment that you did for 1 entry.

  3. Purchase something from her shop and receive 5 entries! Please leave 5 separate comments with the first comment including the link of the item you purchased and the 4 remaining comments "purchase2", "purchase3", "purchase4", and "purchase5".

Kit and Caboodle Shop Feature and Sterling Silver Earring Giveaway...

I apologize for running a day late with the weekly feature. I have done an interview with Gayle so that you can learn more about her and what she does...her Giveaway follows after the interview....

Today, you are going to meet Gayle of Kit and Caboodle Shop on Etsy. Gayle's shop is a joint effort with her whole family. Everyone has a part in either funding or creating this jewelry so that a percentage of the proceeds benefit orphanages in Africa.

Wisdom's Worth Freshwater Pearl and 14k Gold-filled Necklace $50 100% to benefit orphanages

Gayle believes that creating jewelry is her way of expressing gratitude for God's blessings and recognizes that God blesses her when she does the work that He has purposed her to. This is evident in a story that Gayle relayed to me about herself that I wish to share with you later in the week, that is if Gayle approves! As she home schools her teen daughters, she finds her business as a great opportunity for teaching them art as well as business management and finances.

Aquamarine Swarovski Crystal Earrings with Sterling Silver $32 100% to benefit orphanages

Since Gayle's top priority is family and her children, she finds her time a little more limited for creating. She figures about 15 hours a week in actual creativity, the rest of her free time for promotion. What she finds most satisfying about this time is the fact that she is helping to supply rudimentary things that we take for granted, like clothing, food, education, medical care and shelter to the children of the orphanages: one in Zimbabwe and one in Tanzania. In her down time, she spends it with her family camping, hiking, biking and traveling overseas when they can.

Fire Crackle Agate and Brass Necklace $18 100% to benefit orphanages

I asked Gayle if she could have a free account with any one supplier, who would it be. Her response? Artbeads.com. If you haven't seen it yet, visit it...you won't regret it!

Finally, I asked Gayle what her favorite part of selling her wares over the holidays is. This is what she had to say:

"I like knowing that my items will be given as a gift to someone special. I create many of my Christmas gifts to give to my own special people, because creating something handmade is like giving a piece of my heart. I also like receiving handmade gifts. In our fast-paced materialistic culture today, it is nice to know someone took the time to make something special for me. "

Now for Gayle's Giveaway....

Feature with Dana's Jewelry Designs and Earrings Giveaway'

To celebrate Week 2 of the Alterity Holiday Celebration, we will be meeting Dana from Dana's Jewelry Designs. I have planned a brief interview with Dana so you can learn more about her and what she does; her special giveaway follows. Dana comes to us from Tacoma, Washington where she is a writer and jewelry designer specializing in gem trees and wire wrapping. Dana is also a standing member in her local gem and mineral club since 2000.

Lapis Gem Tree $85

Dana has always loved to work with beads and gemstones. After joining the gem and mineral club, she learned everything from wire wrapping to silversmithing to gem trees and beading. After successfully selling her creations to friends and family, Dana turned to sites such as Etsy, Artfire and 1000 Markets to offer her products to the general public. She marvels in the fact that customers love the kits she offers as customers have been trying their hand in creating their own pieces. In fact, her gem tree kits are her biggest seller. Dana has been blessed with the gift of teaching and spends her time teaching others how to make gem trees when she is not designing and creating. Currently unemployed, she devotes at least 4 hours per day designing and about 6 hours per day working on her next upcoming book.

Champagne Delight $25

In her down time, Dana devotes her attention to her dogs, watching SciFi movies and playing application games on FaceBook. I asked Dana if she could have a free life-time account with any supplier of her choice, she didn't hesitate to mention Bend Bead in Oregon. Definitely at gem or silver supplier would top her list!

Wrapped French Coin $35

Finally, I asked Dana what her favorite part of selling her products during the holidays is. Her response?
"Selling items as gifts is a joy. I can just imagine the look on the receiver's face when they open their present. I usually make special holiday boxes for my jewelry so I know that it will be special."

Dana can be found Online on Etsy, Artfire and 1000 Markets.

Now for the Givaway!

Dana is offering readers the chance to win a custom pair of Dana's signature Charm Earrings similar to the one's pictured below. You can find more samples in her 1000 Markets shop. The earrings are created from sterling silver or 14kt gold filled wires and as you can see, the charms are interchangable so you can always change up the look. The winner of the giveaway will have the choice of sterling silver or 14kt gold filled wires and their choice of colored charms. As you can see in her shop, these earrings have a value of up to $25! Surprise Vistor and Current Givaway...

My daughter Ashlee

So, I'm busy working on photos for my online shops at about 3:00pm yesterday when the the phone rings. I see that it is my daughter Ashlee in North Carolina and I answer thinking that she is bored and just wants to chat. What a surprise when she says,
"Guess where I am, Mom?"
"I don't know, Grandmas?"
"Pennsyvania!" she yells.
By the way, I live in New York. Oh, so very cool...I knew she was coming up for her birthday, but I didn't expect her to come up yesterday! So she will be coming over today for the weekend. My first thought: "Crap! The studio is a mess!" So I high-tailed up to the studio to put things away, straighten up and vacuum. My studio was once the spare bed room, now it is the spare bedroom on one side, and a studio on the other. I should photograph it today. Anyway, I am so excited as I haven't really seen her in over a year.

Also, don't forget to get your entries in for the current giveaway. The giveaway ends on Monday, so don't delay! Click here to get to the post. Here is the current prize - 4 handcrafted reversible quilted coasters. $12 value here, folks!

Have a great weekend!
