Building Customer Database And Managing Customer Relationship

Photobucket

Having been specialized in the area of database marketing for a while, thought I would share with you some ideas about database marketing and how to build customer relationship for your jewelry business.

Whether you are selling or marketing through online and offlince channels, you have many opportunities to capture customers database, such as their profile, preference and behaviours. Such opportunities should not be wasted and you should develop a program to capture customers database.

Database marketing allowing you to maximize customer value through cross sell, up sell, retention and repeat sale. It could be a good source for getting referrals as well. Your database is the key to survival in bad times. And it’s the key to maximum profits in good times. Here’s what you need to know about database marketing.

A database is not just a collection of names. It’s a collection of individualized, consumer behavioral information, isolated to each customer. The database concept inputs data and generates information that allows for selective targeted marketing. It provides comprehensive, up-to-date and relevant information about prospects and/or clients, and will pay for itself quickly with visible, measurable sales.

Sources of your database

You will have the opportunity to capture customers information through various touch points such as those below:

- Email enquiries and order.

- Phone enquiries and orders

- Online Sales order through your websites, third party websites. You should create a 'Contact Us' form where you get your customers or prospects to fill in some preset questions.

- Offline channels such as people you meet at your stall, your friends, your colleagues etc. You should always try to exchange business cards with your prospects and encourage your prospects to drop their name cards or write down their details in your visitor log book.

Building Your Database
As you start your database, the most elementary data collected is your customer profile and their buying history: what they bought, when, how much and the source of the order. Here is an example of a typical database structure. In the business of handmade jewelries or products, you could perhaps capture the following information:

Customer Profile:

Name

Age

Gender

Email

Address

Phone

Purchaing History:

Date of order

Source of order

Product Purchased

Product Type

Material of Product

Beading Technique

Contact History

Campaigns targeted

Response Type

Date of Sales enquiries

Enquiry status

Customer Opt In (Yes/ No)

Opt In Date

Your goal is to ultimately develop a high-quality, long-standing relationship of repeat business. With proper analysis of the database, predictive models can be created to mail selectively and with the right frequency. With the proper customer insights, it will help you to customize your creations for your customers as well. The ultimate result is that you can provide your customers with what they really want, when they need it. Properly implemented, you can increase your response rate and lower your cost-per-order. The result is higher profits.

Permission Based Database Marketing

As best practice, you should always allow your customers to subscribe and unsubscribe your promotional marketing. This will help build trust between you and your customers. The worst thing to happen is your marketing materials are seen as spam by your customers.

Well, it does take a lot of time to maintain high quality database. But the value in return is worth the effort.

I wlll share with you best practices for database marketing in my next post.

Handmade Jewelry Marketplace Update

Here are 2 marketplaces that you may want to consider selling your handmade jewelries or tutorials:

"JewelryLessons.com is the brain child of artist Eni Oken: a highly specialized community which not only helps to share knowledge on jewelry making but also EMPOWERS users with REAL REWARDS" I thought it is quite a smart program as it encourages sharing and rewarding those who participate. Must take a look. You may Register Here!

It is a new marketplace for artisans to sell their craft items. I see them as a close competitor to Etsy. Members get to sell there free if they are using basic features. They are offering USD7 per month for life for verified membership where members get to use more advance features. There is no other fees attached. It could potentially be cheaper than Etsy if you are selling more items.

Watch Me: How To Promote Your Handmade Jewelry Club Through Press Release

The following article was submitted to The Star's Citizen Blog as part of the public relation efforts to promote Handmade-Jewelry-Club. Click here to go the the article or simply just read the article below.

People often wonder how to get started selling their jewelry online, so I thought I'd jot down a few tips. These are just my personal recommendations from my experience of running an online Handmade-Jewelry-Club and participations on other marketplaces.

I've found the web is the most conducive venue for young brands as it is virtually zero cost in terms of barrier to entry, overheads are exceedingly low and there are some excellent marketplaces which are themselves already established thus guaranteeing a certain level of traffic.

As promoting your creations online through your own website can be very time consuming. Instead of starting your own website straight away, I would recommend you start with some craft related marketplaces. Etsy could be a good place for you if you are new and testing out as it is "a place to buy and sell all things handmade"it really is a great deal because all your products get put into their catalog so people can search and find them. Etsy is charging relatively reasonable insertion fee as compared some other marketplaces. There are also free venue for posting your creations for sale or for sharing such as Handmade-Jewelry-Club.

More marketplace websites:

In one of my interviews with Malaysian Handmade Jewelry Artists – Sheela Goh who is on her way building her brand internationally, she has given the following advice: “I'm sure you've all heard this before but it's true - be unique. Create something different, differently you. Be patient. Rome wasn't built in a day and despite what you hear about so and so being discovered and becoming a millionaire in 2 months, real life doesn't work that way. Be patient and work really hard, work really smart to carve your own design identity and promote, promote, promote. Another very important thing to remember - don't overstock on the gems. It's a natural addiction for all jewellery designers. We hoard more than we use which makes for lovely personal drooling but does nothing in helping to pay bills :) so buy what you need, don't buy more until you've used up what you have on hand. That's an adage I'm still trying to come to terms with.”

Hope you are able to see some lights on where to start. Good luck!

Want to get started blogging today?

Blogging is a good way to introduce yourself to your buyers.

1. Choose a blog-hosting company where you would like to house your blog. There are several to choose from, each with their own benefits and advantages. We suggest Blogger, WordPress and Typepad , although there are a host of others from which to choose. Type in "blog hosts" in Google to find others that may interest you.

2. Take a look at other blogs and glean ideas about how to make your blog interesting and fun to read. There are several theories about what makes a successful blog. For certain, one of those things is regular updates (sometimes two and three times per day). If you're going to gain a following, your blog must have intelligent, focused writing and a unique style and feel. Avoid rambling posts about daily minutiae unless you are a gifted writer because as soon as readers can click on your blog they can also click away.

3. Place your blog in directories such as Technorati, Blogarama, Blogwise , and of course, The http://www.handmade-jewelry-club.com/ directory. Directories are a great way to get your blog indexed in search engines. They also serve as avenues for finding like-minded blogs.

4. Let other bloggers out there in the blogosphere know you're blogging. Most do this by commenting on blogs and linking out to blogs they enjoy reading. Introduce yourself to other bloggers. Email them even, especially when something they've written has affected you in some way.

Cheers
