Here We Go....

I.AM.FED.UP.

So, as you know, we are going to Disney in a few weeks. This is our first real vacation. Yes, we do things on weekends but generally they are cheap, free, with friends, family, and local. Disney is our first time away for more than one night that doesn't involve our dog or either side of our families.

We have been saving for this vacation since March of last year, with our wedding money, Avon money, birthday money and any other random money that we have. We're also doing this trip on a budget. But the point being...this is our honeymoon.

Now, as some of you may also know, Danny has a six year old son. A few weeks ago I received this ominous voicemail from him. "Hi when I come down over the summer, can you take me to Disney.....don't tell my Dad."

Well, that's weird. I didn't tell him about Disney, and I know Danny didn't tell him about Disney. Who's left? OH! His mom! What person in their right mind says "Daddy is going to Disney without you, call Nicole and tell her you want to go....make sure you say "don't tell my Dad." Or atleast that's how I envision it going, and I don't see that being so far from the truth.

I got over that. Whatever. He's a kid, of course he wants to go to Disney. Me and Danny talked about it...it's our first time away together, we're going to take him next time. And over the summer we're going to take him to Busch Gardens.

So, last night I posted some exciting Disney stuff on Danny's Facebook wall while he was at work. Funny, the second I did that...apparently she started texting him about Kaleb wanting to go to Disney. She also claims that this is her first time "hearing about our trip." Um, so the first time Kaleb just happened to find out?

She also says that we shouldn't be taking our honeymoon, we have every other weekend to do that and we should be taking Kaleb. She is also saying that she will be taking Kaleb this summer...and that now he can't come down here.

Okay, I consider myself a fairly even tempered person, but seriously....this pissed me off. Who is she to say what we do with our money? Danny fully supports Kaleb (as she doesn't have a job and 3 other children.) There will be other vacations for us to take Kaleb on, but for now this is our vacation.

Here's my real issue with all of this. She loves to tell people we are "good friends." She would never actually say any of this stuff to me...just Danny. I honestly have no problem with her, we get along, we share tips with each other, text randomly...whatever, I have no problems. I'm convinced she does this to cause problems with me and Danny. And it's really starting to get to me.

I love spending time with Kaleb. But since we live in different states, of course it makes it hard. Last year we were able to spend the entire month of June with him (if you followed that "series" on here...you know we did A TON!) and Thanksgiving in Ohio. This year we planned to have him the entire summer, vacations to VA, Boston, and Maine. I think we're doing a pretty good job at this co-parenting thing. But maybe I'm just delusional.

Am I being irrational? Total unfair to all parties involved? Is it fair to say that every time we travel I'm going to feel like this?

Kindergarten!

Today is Kaleb's first day of Kindergarten!
I can't wait to hear all about it...
but mostly, I can't wait to ask Danny how it feels to be the Dad of a Kindergartener...
and to be turning 28 next week!

Day 14: The Long Goodbye

Yesterday we left our house at 6am to meet Kaleb's Mom is West Virginia. A six and a half hour drive for us. The weather was crappy, a downpour. We stopped at McDonalds in Raleigh for breakfast...and of course they messed up my order! What a wonderful way to start the longest day ever!

Kaleb was excited to see his Mom. He called her like 5 times on the drive to meet her. He was singing and making up words and playing air guitar. Miley just looked at him like he was nuts!

We were making awesome time. Until we crossed into West Virginia. The rain got worse and then there was traffic. Of course, I documented. There was a semi in the middle of the highway. We missed the accident by two minutes. WOAH.

We met Kaleb's mom at 12:30. We said our short, but sad, goodbyes. And then headed back to our car. Miley decided that's when she was a McDonald's fan...and got into all of the wrappers! I wish I could have gotten a better picture of this...it was seriously hilarious!

We got back in the car and started our six and a half hour journey home. It was a quiet, rainy ride. Miley cried because she missed her friend. Every time it started to rain, there was an accident. They even shut down a highway at one point. Around 4:00 we started getting antsy and I snapped this lovey picture of my hubby. Right after this was taken, I swear it stopped raining and it was 90 degrees again.

We finally made it home around 7:30...but that was after yet another McDonalds trip. I swear, if I never see a fast food place again I will be the happiest girl ever!

I've only been up for a half hour, and my house is already too quiet. I already miss having Kaleb around. My house is a mess, video games everywhere and all of our beach stuff. But by the end of the day the mess will be gone and the only sign of Kaleb will be all the pictures and memories that we have made. I seriously didn't expect to have such a great two weeks, but I really did. I already can not wait for his next visit.

Day 13: Aquarium, A Beatle and Medieval Times!

We went to the aquarium this morning! We weren't there too long, but it was seriously a lot of fun! The New England Aquarium always claims to be the best, but I think it's small, stuffy and stinky. Today we went to the Aquarium in Emerald Isle. I thought it was great! Kaleb kept saying how much fun he was having and could have watched the sharks all day! We got our picture taken and I can't wait to get a frame for it. Our first official family picture! The quality of it on here is crappy, it's a picture of a picture...taken with my cell phone!

Miley had her last vet appointment for 6 months. She got the Lyme prevention shot and had her stitches looked at. Still have a perfect puppy! But I do have a question. If they have Lyme prevention for dogs...why don't they have it for humans? If they do, I haven't heard of it!

BREAKING NEWS! We are seeing Paul McCartney this summer!! My Mom got tickets for me, Danny, my sister and her boyfriend. I'm PSYCHED! Honestly, going to be the best night ever!!

So it was about 1:30 when I said, "I bet he would like Medieval Times." The next thing I knew I was purchasing tickets and we were sitting in the car for the 2 hour ride. Kaleb had so much fun! He couldn't wait for the fighting to start. We all wore goofy crowns, Kaleb got a flag and by the end of the show he had a sword and shield! It was an awesome time!

Remember, guest blogging tomorrow!

Day 12: Helicopters, Packages and Bowling

Four posts in one day. And I lost a follower. Eek. SORRY!

Kaleb got a toy helicopter in the package from my Mom. He said "now I can play with this everyday and think of my Dad!" Isn't he so adorable!? We went outside an played with the helicopter and sweated our patooties off. (The grass in the backyard is so brown...thank you, dog urine....)

If you haven't noticed, mail-time is my favorite time of day! Today I got my package from Mrs. S. It's been an adventure in itself getting this package! First, the items were back ordered. Then, the mail was messed up on both ends. But I finally got it! And girlie, I'm glad I found you too!

Hubby came home early! And I'll be honest, I cracked open a beer at 1:00. A cold beer on a hot day...never thought I would say it, but it's so thirst quenching. OH! And how could I forget about this. The second Danny gets home from work, he strips down in the kitchen. Today I just had to take a picture. His socks were pulled up to his knees, it seriously cracked me up, but the second I pulled the camera out he took them off! Damn! But check out that sweet farmers tan!

We went bowling tonight. It was Kaleb's first time! He used the bumpers and did way better than me and Danny. He even got a strike! I always want to go bowling, but once we're there...I remember I don't really like it! Probably because I suck.

We're having a sleepover in the living room tonight. We went to the store and we each got out favorite snacks! We are going to watch Toy Story 2!

Hope you all have a great Friday night!

Day 11: Lion King, Alien Abductions, and A Package

Hubby didn't have to go to work until noon today. I love having him around. However, I'm the type of girl who needs a full cup of coffee and sugar in my system before you should talk to me. Danny on the other hand....well, he woke up singing the Lion King theme song at the top of his lungs. You know, the one that just sounds like weird noises....

Kaleb woke up screaming and crying in the middle of the night. The only reason I heard him is because Miley started whining. He missed his Mom and his ear hurts. He talked to his Mom when he woke up this morning, she then sent me a text message saying "Oops, I should have told you he has tubes in his ears." Yes, that would have been nice to know!

I think aliens abducted me. Because there is no way I could get a bruise like this and not remember hurting myself. This picture doesn't even begin to describe what it looks like. It's a bright red line and two things that look like finger prints. It freaks me out because it doesn't look like any bruise I have ever had. If it doesn't go away (or fade) in a few days...I want to get it looked at. Yes, I worry about everything.

We got a a package in the mail from my Mom today! It was seriously awesome. Miley got some treats, Danny got a shirt, I got a dress and a book and Kaleb hit the motherload. That kid has a brand new wardrobe. And she sent me my mail...I got two free nail polishes from Martha Stewart. Apparently I entered a contest. I don't remember doing that, but it was a great surprise!

I was going to make French toast for breakfast, but since it was just me and Kaleb I asked what he wanted. He said "bacon." Sure, I love bacon! We had bacon and cheese sandwiches. God, so unhealthy! Diet starts Monday. Seriously!

Tomorrow is Friday. Thank God. I feel like this has been the longest week. Only a few more days with the little man, and we have some fun stuff planned for the weekend!

Day 10: Crafts, Beach and Pancakes

TEXT MESSAGE FAIL! Last night I sent my Mom a text that said "Danny is taking the weed off me." It was supposed to say "Danny is taking the week off of..." OOPS!! T9 is not always my best friend!

Right now I'm sitting on my living room floor. Just looking around. Holy crap, this house is a mess. Dog toys everywhere, pillows on the floor, Buzz Lightyear wings in front of the door, video games out of their cases, and unfolded blankets. Wait....is that a piece of dirt I see? I can't wait to get my obnoxiously clean house back.

As if my house wasn't messy enough...we did Father's Day crafts! Three cards! What a lucky guy! Kaleb kept saying "Daddy is going to be SO proud of me." He couldn't wait to give them to his Daddy. We decided we were going to give the cards to him tonight, because he won't be here for Father's Day. (Poor kid had to use my kind-girly scrapbooking supplies. But he did a great job!)

Then we headed to the beach with Breanna! His first beach trip of his time here ended with a thunderstorm...this one ended with him shivering! We had fun splashing in the waves, looking at shells that looked like dinosaurs and finally got a picture of the two of us! Pardon my thunder-thighs, please and thank you!

The beach totallyyyy exhausted me for some reason. Must be the massive sunburn on my shoulders. Is it possible that sunblock doesn't work on me? I use SPF 50 and it hasn't been working! And yes, I reapply at the necessary times!

Dinner was a bit strange tonight. I pull out the recipes I like from magazines, so I don't even know where I got this one. But it was like...rich man's shepherd's pie. Which I think defeats the purpose. It had spinach and mushrooms in it. Kaleb saw me pull the spinach out of the fridge and said "I refuse to eat seaweed!" And he really did refuse to eat dinner. Danny made him sit in the living room until we were done eating. I know he would have eaten it if he didn't see what was in it. Boo on me!

But then I remembered the cards! I called Kaleb into the kitchen and he gave his Dad the cards he made. And he started crying! So, I gave him pancakes for dinner. He was too cute...I couldn't pass up tears.

And how cute is this?!?

Day 9: Routine Boredom

Miley slept til 6:30 (oh yay, an extra 15 minutes!) and Kaleb slept past 8! That means, for the first time in a week I have been able to watch the news. Shockingly enough, I haven't missed much. The damn oil spill is still happening and still destroying wildlife. I have a serious question. Do they really use Dawn soap to clean the oily-animals? If so, I'm Dawn's biggest fan. No lie.

Kaleb has started to get antsy. Not even the Wii keeps him entertained...but he also doesn't like any of my other suggestions. He is a kid of routine. Monsters Inc. Wii. Memory game. Peanut butter and jelly. And he won't veer from what he likes. This is a typical conversation:

Me: Want chips?
Kaleb: Does my Dad like chips?

Me: Do you like this song?
Kaleb: Does my Dad like this song?

All day. Everyday. That is the conversation we are having. But he has the cutest voice, so I don't even mind! (Oh, and a bit of a sidenote: I hate cutting off the crust on peanut butter and jelly...what a waste!)

Speaking of waste. Electricity. It's killing me. I hate having the TV on all day...but he doesn't like my outdoor suggestions! H-E-L-P!

For dinner we had pepperoni lasagna roll-ups. I like lasagna, they like pepperoni (more than any human should!)...so together, it was the perfect meal! Kaleb called it "ba-sagnia and mamagian cheese." Goodness, his cuteness is just too much sometimes! While I cooked...Kaleb and Miley waited for Daddy to get home from work....

Hump day tomorrow...and we are going to have some fun with Breanna! Can't wait!

Day 8: I Think We Have a New Beatles Fan!

Maybe it was the weekend away from home, maybe it's because we're both homesick (probably me more than him!), or maybe it's because we are just lazy....but today was boring. We watched cartoons, ate pancakes, and I might have snuck into the bathroom a few times to hide my tears. I think I even fell asleep while we were watching a movie!

My sister called with good news! Paul McCartney will be in Charlotte on July 28. Hell YES. She is going to make the trek down...and we'll have some quality sister bonding time. Maybe even her bf (and Paul look-alike) will come...and Danny can figure something out with work and be able to come too!

So, after getting the good-former Beatles news....I was in the mood for some Rock Band. Kaleb was on the drums and I sang. About 20 minutes into the game he declared "I AM THE EGGMAN!" I think that's enough Rock Band for one day!

Danny came home and made steaks on the grill. He's the grill-chef in the house, I refuse to even turn it on (baaaaad experience!) The boys and Miley are outside playing right now....and I'm thinking I might take a nice long bubble bath. But more than likely I'll end up with a 10 minute shower and Miley howling outside the door until I get out. Ah, the life of a spoiled puppy mommy!

Days 5, 6 & 7: Portraits, Roadtrips and Jesus

REWIND: Thursday night Kaleb got homesick. He went to bed and about a half hour later he came out of the room crying. He called his mom and talked to his brother and sister. He fell asleep watching Spiderman with his Daddy. Friday morning...it was like nothing even happened!

Hallelujah! Danny fixed my coffee pot! Kaleb watched Monsters Inc. (again) and I enjoyed a nice big cup of coffee! We, of course, played the Wii (my right arm is jacked...and really sore,) went for a scooter ride, played the memory game, and read a few books. And drew silly pictures of each other. And he was a hungry man! TWO pancakes for breakfast and TWO pb&j's for lunch! And snacks galore!

Kaleb with Miley and his scooter

Kaleb's interpretive drawing of me...

After some yummy pizza we got on the road....this time to Summerville, South Carolina! Kaleb and Miley passed out for the whole trip. Which was great, until we got to my Aunts and they were both WIDE awake! We ended up having to put Miley in her cage for the night...and I was able to sleep in until 8:30! The latest I have slept in months.

It was atleast 150 degrees out. Or, atleast my skin felt like it was that hot! We had a water day at my cousin Jessica's house. The kids ran in the sprinkler, slip and slide, water balloons and jumped on the trampoline. They were all kind of cranky, but I think they had fun! Kids these days....all they want to do is sit in front on the TV and play video games!

Did you know my husband could play the piano? Neither did I!

We had a cookout at my Aunts house. Jess made the family favorite, picked pork! Don't knock it til you try it! We had some laughs (my aunt yelled out JESUS! and my 3 year old cousin repeated it. Jessica tried covering it up by saying cheese-its...but then he said "no...Jesus!" Too funny!) And, you might have guessed it, the kids played video games.

Kaleb didn't want to leave Sunday morning. I couldn't wait to get back home. I'm getting old, I missed my bed, my shower....everything about being at my own house! We made the trek back home. And my pup was exhausted!

The first week with Kaleb has been great. I love when Miley cuddles with him, when he says I'm a good cook and when him and Danny are having quality time together. I have no idea what we are doing this week...but I'm hoping we get to do more fun stuff before he leaves!

Oh. And best part of Sunday night? Miley stole Kaleb's underwear...so we made her wear it!

Day 4: Is It a Full Moon?

What's a girl gotta do to get some sleep?! My only saving grace is a big cup o' Joe in the morning. I have this coffee pot:

Or, I should say...I had this coffee pot. It decided to break on me this morning. I came in from letting the dog out and there was coffee EVERYWHERE. Biggest mess ever.

After cleaning up the coffee waterfall, I attempted to watch the news...but Miley threw up! So, instead of the news..I did more cleaning. Did I mention this was all before 8AM? And with no coffee in my system. Not a good way to start the day!

The sun was shining so me, Kaleb and Miley went for a little walk. And when the sun shines in North Carolina..you sweat. We went inside to get a drink...Kaleb wanted fruit punch. He set it down on the counter.  We both walked away, I heard a crash. Miley decided she wanted fruit punch. Good thing I never got around to putting away the cleaning stuff! (this is when I started getting a lack-of-coffee headache....)

Luckily, I thought the day was flying by! But not Kaleb...he must have asked me atleast 20 times "when my Dad gonna be home?" When it was time for lunch he said he wanted "frozen corn, the kind Daddy likes." So, I whip out the Kids Cuisine that he picked out and stuck it in the microwave. He said "no, it's not frozen." Guess Danny should have said you COOK the frozen corn!!! He wanted little frozen corn ice cubes!

Finally after all of the craziness I convinced Kaleb to stop playing the Wii and to relax with some TV. Thankfully Miley got the hint...and she relaxed with some TV too!

I should have known it was too good to be true. I decided it was time to make chocolate chip cookies. I had them on the counter to cool, we were all hanging out in the living room. Until Miley decides she wants some cookies to go with her punch. She didn't really get them, she put her paws on the counter. I don't know why she does this. We have never given her table food or encouraged this habit. I yell no, snap my fingers, spank her butt (lightly, not into doggy abuse!) but nothing works. Oh, did I mention this was when my dishwasher stopped working and I had to hand wash the entire load from the night before. This is also when I told Danny he should bring a coffee home with him! Kaleb came into the kitchen and said "Nicole, you're having a baaaaad day." That's right little buddy, I sure am!

The best part of the day was when Danny came home. He brought me the biggest iced coffee..and it was by far the best iced coffee I have ever had. After dinner, we went for a walk, the boys played catch and my devil puppy acted like a dog. Yay for a happy ending to the longest day ever!

Thank you for reading this way-too-long post. What's the moral of the story? Always make sure you have a working coffee pot.

Day 3: Snuggle Buddies and Corn Dogs!

I've been traded! Miley loves snuggling and giving kisses to Kaleb. This morning I was excited to have some time to myself, but they both woke up super early. So we popped in Monsters Inc and relaxed for a little bit. Miley was laying with me, but the next thing I knew...she got up and plopped down on Kaleb's lap! Look at these two faces! Don't you just wanna give them big hugs?!

Kaleb wanted to know what Daddy does in the Marines. I told him that he works on helicopters. He said "That's all? He doesn't kill bad guys?" I didn't know what to say. Danny has a hard time explaining that one too. Help us out please!

We played baseball, bowling, tennis and golf...all on the Wii, of course. He rode his scooter while me and Miley ran around. We played a memory game ("I'm not cheating, I'm just looking at all the cards!") And watched Spongebob while we waited for Danny to get home.

Oh. And my dog jumped on the kitchen table. This girl needs serious obedience school STAT. I actually think she is jealous that it's not just me and her during the day...and she doesn't like watching us play the Wii! (I promise, she is a good dog, she usually doesn't do things like this.)

Kaleb made dinner for us tonight! I put everything on the counter to make baked corn dogs...and let him do the rest! He cut the hot dogs in half, put them on the sticks and wrapped them in the pastry. They don't look like much but I had 4 of them! Yum!

Hubby and I have a date for a mini-LOST marathon tonight. And here's to hoping Miley and Kaleb sleep in tomorrow!

Day 2: Beach, Helicopters, and Mini Golf

The weather was perfect this morning! We all put on our swim suits, packed up towels and toys, and got Miley in the car and headed out for the beach! I wasn't too excited to bring Miley, a nice day at the beach means lots of people..and she's a little too friendly sometimes! I don't want her jumping on people and ruining someones beach trip. But after all was said and done, she proved me wrong and was a really good girl!

Kaleb and Danny played in the water, looked for crabs and built sandcastles. I wish we could have stayed longer and had more fun, but the clouds started rolling in. We packed up and got in the car just in time for the rain!

Then we headed over to base to see the helicopters that Danny works on, the CH-53 ECHO. It was the first time for me and Kaleb. And finally, a shot of the three of us!

Another successful dinner night, even though we lied about what we were having! He said he wouldn't eat pork but loved chicken. So, we had "chicken" for dinner. It was a new recipe I was trying out, I think they both liked it more than I did.

After dinner the weather cleared up and we went mini golfing! So much fun! I got 2 holes in 1! But still managed to lose the game. BOO! Then the boys did some go-karts and arcade games!

Another great day! Me and Kaleb (and Miley too!) wish Danny didn't have work tomorrow! Hopefully I can keep him entertained. He likes to play with the Wii and maybe I'll steal his coloring book for a few hours!
