Egyptian Coil Free Tutorial from Marie Cristine

Aside from Chainmaille, Egyptian coil is one of the wire work techniques in jewelry making that I admire. It’s not that difficult to make and with only around, I think, seven simple steps, you’ll be able to create beautiful pieces.

Here's an earring using Egyptian Coil Technique from Wellspring Creations.

It's a simple one, that even without embellishment or some sort, just the coil itself, already looks beautiful.

You can also add charms or beads to add character like this Egyptian Coil & Turquoise Earrings from All A Glow Jewelry

...and creating Egyptian links, you'll be able to create a necklace or a bracelet like this shimmery bracelet from CatinaLife Creations.

What a beauty...can't help but admire these beauties. I think Egyptian Coil is a versatile wire work jewelry technique and I would love to include it in my list of favorite jewelry techniques. ^_^
And to help everyone with this technique, I found a free tutorial created by Marie of Marie Cristine blog. She has created an easy step by step instructions. And as I've mentioned earlier, with only seven simple steps you'll be able to master it.

So, get ready with your round nose pliers and your wire, and find out more with this
free tutorial from Marie.

Here's an added bonus!!! For your Egyptian Coil bracelet, you can finish it off by making an Egyptian Clasp. Learn how to with Kate Drew-Wilkinson at DIYLessons. Click the links for

My Kumihimo Bracelet and Keychain

Hello everyone! I’d like to show you something I made last week using the art of ancient Japanese braiding called Kumihimo. But before that, just a trivia, in ancient times, Kumihimo was created by finger-loop braiding and no tool was used. Japanese patiently use their skills in braiding with their bare hands. Then later on Marudai and Takadai were invented to make complex braiding much faster.

Marudai from Wikipedia

Takadai from Wikipedia

Nowadays, Kumihimo disks are made of foam plastic that’s, sort of, a portable Marudai - small and easy to carry anywhere. And because the modern Kumihimo disk is convenient to carry, I was able to finish my braided bracelet and keychain, halfway while traveling to visit a relative last week.

And here they are!!!

Originally, I wanted to take pictures and show everyone the steps of braiding but was not able to take photos. I was traveling when I did the keychain. Besides, as you can see, my photos weren't that clear. But I did found some pretty good video tutorials from craftycrafter and uploaded them on DIYLessons for everyone's benefit.

There's a video that will teach you the basics of Kumihimo braiding and this is good for starters. I also found a video on braiding with beads showing a very beautiful necklace. You can also learn onhow to finish Kumihimo braids with Cord End caps, which is so helpful in making jewelries and having that neat finish. And there's a video that shares helpful tips to determine where you to resume after a pause 'cause sometimes we need to stop and do something else and we get confused on what thread we stopped.

I recommend these videos. They're great!

Here's a necklace from craftycrafter. It uses the basic 8-strand braid added with beads.

Beautiful, isn't it?

So, let's get started and learn the basic with this

A perfect accessory for my little niece from Ruffles and Stuff

Hi everyone!

I've been checking out the net for an accessory that I can use for a wedding, something easy to make and super less expensive. I have a 5-year old niece, my cousin’s daughter and she’s very dear to me. She’s a flower girl at a wedding this coming April and her mom came to me, asking help if I can make an accessory for her little girl. The mom knows that I know how to make jewelry and she wanted something real cheap because they’ve already spent money for the gown. My niece is a favorite at weddings and since three she’s been attending weddings every year. She’s a cute little girl when she’s in her gown. Mom was requesting something her girl can wear every wedding so that she won’t have to buy every year.

So, I went over to Ruffles and Stuff because I know Disney has a lot of these stuffs “,)

Here’s what I’m going to make. I plan to make it in different colors so that my little niece has the colors for every wedding motif. What do you think? This will look good on little girls, too!

I think this rose cuff bracelet will look really, really cute on her. I even wanted one for myself.

...and these earrings, too! Just a few adjustments on the size and I know, both the earrings and rose cuff will perfectly look good on my little niece.

If you're looking for a wedding accessory, or maybe, not just for weddings but something you feel like wearing, you can always try out and visit these two pretty easy tutorials from Disney, her Rose Cuff Bracelet and Petal Earring Tutorial.

An inspiration from Amanda

I love it when people get inspiration from others and they get to be creative as they can be. Like this design of earring display from Amanda. The blog has many comments and as I read through each one of them, I’ve learned that others got to create their own versions of the earring display, that each one is different and has their own style. I thought of passing the idea from Amanda through Handmade Jewelry Club so that you will get to stir up you own creative idea on how to make your own earring display.

This is Amanda's Shabby Chic Dangly Earring Display

Amanda loves her dangly earrings and she has a lot, and so, she came up with the idea of creating a way to display her beautiful earrings. The process is just easy and inexpensive, plus, you always get to see and admire your earrings everyday while they're all hanging beautifully.

Learning how Amanda did it, Hannah created her own version. What's cute about Hannah'searring display is that she even made one for her necklaces.

Great idea!

It's like hitting two birds with one stone. Same process, but less work and viola!!! A necklace display for Hannah.

But this earring and necklace display from Julie looks really cool!

Julie called this her "Keeper of Jewels" and this is an old window frame she got from a clearance sale. I adore it! It looks lovely. I also like how she used the knobs to hang her necklaces.

I'm sure you have a lot of handmade jewels and stuffs. I do, too and I just keep them in a box. Sometimes they look messy just keeping them in a box and not separate each pair. These display ideas would be great to try out, so, here's the tutorial links to choose from: Amanda's Tutorial Shabby Chic Dangly Earring Display, Hannah's easy peasy jewelry storage andJulie's Keeper of Jewels. Whichever you may choose would be great!!!

XqDesign's Wire Beaded Rose Ring

Got the opportunity to see, firsthand the tutorial of Miss XqDesigns’ latest creation, Wire Beaded Rose Ring - it was a wonderful feeling. Can’t help but admire her wirework skills and creativity so I asked her how she came up with the design. And she simply said, “It was for a simple reason. I have some wires and seed beads left, and hence, came up with the beaded ring. Wirework is wonderful. It is so flexible to create anything that comes into my mind.”

With a very simple reason Jane came up with this dainty looking rose covered with beads.

The beads added texture and glitter to the petals while the focal bead added identity. It does really look like a rose.
I’ve studied its appearance and I think with the tutorial, you can create an array of wire beaded roses using different colors that can complement your outfit and every season.

The tutorial is presented with full pictoral details in PDF form - so easy and fun to make. With beginner to intermediate wire work skills you’ll be able to create your own...

How to bead loom

This is my beading loom tool. It’s just a small beading loom and I got it for my birthday. Mom gave it to me. It’s actually just a starter kit for kids LOL but its great!!!

And here’s something I made from my beading loom tool, not too great but I think it looks cool LOL. Well, I’m just starting. I used a graphing paper to draw my pattern and I think it came out juuuust fine. ^_^

It’s a bracelet and I just attached lock findings at both ends using jumprings and pliers.

How to do it? Here’s a very cool video on Beadmat (weaving) Bracelet. You'll find more free videos on bead looming projects at DIYLessons.

If you like a printed instruction on how to bead loom, Fire Mountain Gems is sharing a printer friendly version on Beginning Looming by Marlynn McNutt. They also got a great video with Marlynn McNutt on how to bead loom. You’ll see great designs for belts, hats and jewelries. Visit thislink for more.

Now, what’s this?

It’s going to be your bead looming took after a while ^_^

If you’re up for it. You can make one, yourself and create this cute ring from The Creative Muslimah.

Featured Design: Cool Cuffs for Boys

Do you have a son or a nephew? Well, I do! I have a 4-year old nephew and I’ll be making this cool cuff from Cheri, the roaring Momma who’s kickin’ and playin’ in Utah with her two boys and her hubby.

I love this idea that Cheri has shared. My nephew has this old belt that he’s not using anymore because it won’t fit him and so I’ll be using it and turn it into a cuff just like what Cheri did for his nephew.

Awww… looks really cool. Cute, too!!! He’s gorgeous!

Can't wait to try this out and make one for my nephew, so, let’s head over to Cheri’s free tutorialand visit I Am Momma Hear Me Roar blog for more of her cool stuff.

Here's another Eco-Project for a cuff design, the Bejeweled "Cuff Style" Bracelet.

Featured Design: Double Ribbon Washer Necklace

Meet Becca, a wife, a mother of three and the creative mind behind Blue Cricket Design. She has made her blogging, a way to enjoy the days in her pajama and being with family. She loves crafts from sewing, to refurnishing furniture, to baking and being in the kitchen, and making jewelries. Becca has her own style that makes her crafts and she herself, different, which she totally loves.

In our previous posts on washer jewelries, we have featured how to make washer necklace and that was a cool stuff, but here is Becca’s own version of a washer necklace.

I think with Becca’s idea, we can use different colors of ribbons and laces, and tie them all together. We can use the color of the ribbon or necklace to go with our outfit, don’t you think? I bet this would also look good using a slimmer size of leather cord.

Can’t wait to try it out? Head over to Blue Cricket Design. Becca has shared a video tutorial on how to make the Double Ribbon Washer Necklace.

If you’ve missed our previous washer necklace feature tutorials here’s the link to revisit the post.

Timeless Vintage Jewelries

Vintage jewelries are timeless and they never go out of style. The materials used for vintage jewelries come from different eras and can be passed down from generations to generations, recycled and repurposed to suit the wearer’s taste. I’m not sure though if vintage jewelries sell more expensive than today’s handmade jewelries, but I know you can buy vintage pieces at flea markets at a low, low price.

Kathleen loves creating vintage charmed bracelets. Her blog Charm Bracelet Diva mirrors the story of her life and like what she said, her journey in jewelry-making. She has created timeless pieces of vintage charm bracelets and surely the term “Diva” is perfect for her.

Let’s take a peek at some of her collections for 2011.
