A Quickie Tutorial from Rubies and Pearls

Hello everyone!

Found this easy and quickie tutorial for earrings that uses lace, glue, post pad earrings and scissors. My aunt is a dressmaker so I bet finding colorful laces to use wouldn’t be a hard for me.

Hannah had made this one so easy... no special technique that anyone can easily follow.

I think this would be a great gift for baby girls so let’s together start making the Lace Earrings with this free tutorial that Hannah has shared in her blog Rubies and Pearls.

I could make lots of these for my cousins’ babies, too.

Featured Jewelry: Ribbon and Pearl Necklaces

I love pearls and I think they look really elegant as jewelries.

When I was a kid we used to have this big shell that was given as a gift to my family by my father’s Japanese friend. My grandma used to say that when you bury or cover the shell in a container filled with uncooked rice, the shells will begin to produce pearls so my younger sister and I would always hide the shell in a can filled with rice. Don’t know if it’s true but it doesn’t matter. We had fun playing with that big old shell.

But now that we’re ladies, we enjoy the pearls much even more…

...and here's something from Cherry Bubbins,

a Romantic Ribbon and Pearl Necklace Tutorial

Leslie from Utah created this beautiful pearl necklace. Typically, pearl necklaces are made by stringing the pearls alone, but Leslie has made hers, sewn with ribbons. It's just easy to make and if you want to try it out, visit her free tutorial at Cherry Bubbins blog.

Very Busy Week

I have set myself a quite large weekly 'to do' list in order to get everything done in time for my first trade fair in April.

I have been busy loading items to my Etsy page as it has been very neglected recently. There are some great bargains here and most are one off items.
I have also been putting some things on Ebay in an attempt to make some space for my stock.

A new website should be ready (fingers crossed) by the end of October, I have been busy loading items but there is still loads to do, this is a sneak peak so far.

This is a new collection based on some jewellery I have previously made. These would make ideal wedding jewellery. Made with freshwater pearls, rock crystal and cute sterling silver toggle clasps.
I just need to design some matching earrings now.

Ivory & Cream Bridesmaid Jewelry

This year there seems to be a new color trend popping up for bridesmaids. Typically, brides lean towards choosing colorful jewelry that matches their bridesmaids gowns and wedding colors. Lately the trends seems to be heading towards the selection of ivory and cream colored bridesmaid jewelry or white bridesmaid jewelry.

The light tones of ivory and cream as well as white gives a nice "pop" color for accessorizing with any color pallet. Ivory and white jewelry goes with every color and can be worn for multiple occasions. This makes a gift of this type of bridesmaid jewelry a gift that keeps on giving. Bridesmaids are usually given their jewelry by the bride the day before the wedding as their "thank you" gift for being a part of their special day. Giving bridesmaid jewelry in neutral tones like cream and white allows the bride to match to any color pallet as well as making a beautiful jewelry piece statement.

The general trend of the white and ivory bridesmaid jewelry seems to follow pearls. Pearls are a very traditional and classic look for brides but bridesmaids as well. Whether it's a chunky combination of multiple strands of pearls, illusion pearl jewelry or just a simple single strand pearl necklace and bracelet, ivory and white colored pearls make a perfect fit.

Because there are so many different styles of bridesmaids jewelry, it's great to shop for your white and cream bridesmaid jewelry online, finding a designer or company that offers these color selections. Finding a store that also customizes things like the size, clasp and earring styles and other personal customizations that make planning a wedding easy and stress free.

If you are considering white, cream or ivory bridesmaid jewelry for your bridesmaids looking for any design that fits your style is the perfect gift giving idea. White and ivory pearl colors are perfect for any wedding, any season and coordinate with any color pallet. The rewearable factor is also huge for your jewelry gift because they can accessorize it with anything.

Got the blues - earrings

These are todays make.
They are sterling silver earrings with a faceted Iolite bead at the bottom and a cluster of tiny white freshwater pearls.

These are lovely earrings and can be dressed up or down.

I am also working on a range that isnt jewellery! It features beads but isnt made from them!
Comment with your ideas of what it is and if you are correct you will win the mystery item!

Pretty Hair Clip

Another busy day today, I have made this hair clip that would be perfect for a wedding.
It is made with freshwater pearls and Swaorvki Crystals in fuchsia, rose pink and crystal.

These can be customised to any colour scheme you want making it ideal for bridesmaids to tie in with their dresses and it is something you know they will wear over again.

Busy Busy Bumble Bee!

I have been busy making jewellery today for the first time in ages.
I have just got myself a new stockist who has taken a lot of my stock and I have a party coming up so thought i'd better get cracking!

Well this is one of the things ive done, its my favourite of the day. It's made from pretty white Freshwater Pearls, Swarovski Crystals and has a Sterling Silver Heart toggle clasp.

Introducing the 'brangle'

This was really a mistake, but I think I might have created something unique by doing it!

The pearls came in a batch of different colours. The gold ones were the ones I thought I probably wouldn't make up. Nothing wrong with gold, just not one of my favourite shades.

But I thought I'd see if the holes were large enough for memory wire, so started experimenting with the gold ones, and seeing if some topaz crystals would co-ordinate with them.

As you can see, they went on and I was pleased with the crystal effect. Quite a tight fit though, and as I teased them on, something happened to the memory wire. It sort of expanded and lost it's curl.

I finished it off with a jump ring and crystal, just to see how it would look...

And now, I think I've got something half way between a bracelet and a bangle. It has enough flexibility to slip on the wrist but is quite rigid like a bangle. Could it be I've invented the BRANGLE?!

Here's the finished article. The colour is really growing on me now, and I'm thinking of putting it in the shop. What do you think?
