The jewelry styles we present in the December 2010/January 2011 issue are more than just a sampling of the best modern styles our designers offer; many are a nod to classic jewelry designs. For example, an early-1900s design Jennifer VanBenschoten saw at an antique jewelry auction inspired her pearly, crystal-studded cuff. Randy Drobny’s use of materials in his quick-and-easy earrings, which were modeled off of a pair of antique earrings, truly captures costume jewelry’s classic combination of deep brassy shades and pearls. And Laura McCabe’s necklace is a tribute to her Great-Great-Aunt Aurelia’s fabulous 1950s style. Our special expanded Beadwork Challenge showcases seven designers—including beadwork from readers like you! Plus, learn to stitch simple edgings and embellishments in Jean Campbell’s department, Stitch Pro.
