Today is the first round of Your Questions! Today I'm going to do all the childhood and growing up related questions, I think these were my favorite questions!
Goodnight Moon asked "When you were a kid, did you have one nightmare that scared the crap out of you?" Do I have to choose just one? Because I have the most vivid and memorable dreams. I once had a dream I was flying with Peter Pan, jumping from couch to couch in the family living room in our old house. It was creepy, because Peter Pan is kinda creepy. I had a reoccurring dream that Edward Scissorhands lived at the end of our cul-de-sac, we had picnics at his house every weekend. And the most creepy dream was when gigantic astronauts landed in the cul-de-sac and looked in my window while I was sleeping. Needless to say, I'm scared of open windows at night til this day.
Steph asked "What did you want to be when you grew up when you were little?" I always wanted to be a teacher. But I think I wanted to do it for all the wrong reasons, like...guaranteed summer vacations. When it came time to apply to colleges, I chose the Elementary Education major. It only lasted half of a semester, before I realized I didn't even really like kids. I went from Education to considering Communications, to no major, to a History major. My thought process was "well, I like History...there must be something I can do with it." Know what I can do with it? I can be a teacher.
Laura asked "What is your greatest childhood memory?" I don't think I have any bad childhood memories, so it's really hard to choose just one. But for some reason, whenever I think of growing up, I think of all the fun times I had with my sister and our neighbors, Frank and Adam. Back in the day, our backyard was a huge ditch (now it's filled in with lots and lots of trees) we would make forts out of anything and everything. Until the day my Dad told us he would build us a tree house. He kept putting it off and one day told us "the man down back won't let me." Being kids, we believed him. We were so mean to that old man. When we were roaming the backyard playing we would be rude and annoying. But we didn't care, he wouldn't let us have our tree house. In the meantime, Dad build us a regular clubhouse (I think he really just wanted a shed!) We had our Goosebumps club, only for exclusive members. I think the posters and club rules are still posted. Years later we found out that the old man never said we couldn't have a treehouse, Dad just didn't want to build it! I still feel horrible that we were so mean to that old man!
Laura also asked "Growing up where did you see yourself going and how is that different from today?" I never pictured myself living 800 miles away from home. I never pictured myself marrying a guy I knew for less than a year. I never pictured myself married to the military. I always pictured my life happening in Massachusetts, working and using my college degree. But because of one path I chose (to randomly move to North Carolina) everything changed. But I wouldn't change any of it!
