You Inspire Me: Devil Dog Darling

I'm very excited about this new series! And I am so happy that I chose Kaylee from Devil Dog Darling to be my first inspiration of the week. I absolutely adore Kaylee and her blog. She is the wife of a Marine and a puppy mommy! Seriously, what's not to love about this girl!?

Kaylee said I should watch Shutter Island. I've been wanting to see it...so this gave me an excuse to go rent it!

So, the first thing I noticed were the "Boston" accents. People from Boston do not talk like this! Sure, we drop our r's...but Leonardo DiCaprio's accent was more New Jersey with a mix of Boston. But that's besides the point!

The movie was filmed in Massachusetts, even though I have never visited these mental institutions..it  made me miss home. If you are into studying the history of mental institutions I recommend reading up on the Danvers State Insane Asylum. And if you want to read about a lobotomy, one of my favorite books ever is My Lobotomy by Howard Dully.

Okay, okay...to the movie! I had to watch it in two sittings, not because I didn't like it..but because I'm old and fell asleep the first time we watched it. Danny said it's in his Top Ten movies, I thought it was good. Predictable, but good. Has anyone read the book? I want to know how it compares!

The characters were great. I have never been a Michelle Williams fan, but wow she was fantastic in this movie. Like, to the point where I was beginning to think it wasn't really her!

I liked the movie, we'll probably end up buying it...we like to have a huge movie collection. I haven't read the book, but I can almost guarantee that it's even better than the movie!

Kaylee recommended that I read any book by Harlan Coben. Well, I've never even heard of him! So I headed to Barnes and Noble and did some browsing. I ended up buying (I love new books, I have a hard time reading used books...) Hold Tight.

There were so many books to choose from, but I chose this one because I felt like I could relate. It had to do with technology, computers, internet, and social networking. I like books I can relate to. And I really like anything that reminds me of Law and Order.

There were seriously about twenty main characters, three different stories...and I spent the entire book trying to figure out how they were related! The book was awesome. The suspense kept me reading, I couldn't put it down. Even when we went to the beach and everyone wanted to go swimming...I needed to know what was going to happen next in the book! Seriously, I love when I don't want to put a book down!

I couldn't wait to get to the end of the book. I read it so fast. I couldn't wait to find out how all the characters were connected. This was a great book. I seriously want to read other books by Harlan Coben now! I 110% recommend this book!

Sidenote: I am so so happy that these two were paired together. The movie to me was so predictable, but the book...I had no idea where it was going! But I feel like if I was watching Hold Tight as a movie...I'd know exactly what was happening. If I didn't have such a long list of books to read, I'd be buying Shutter Island, the book,  as we speak!

And now...for the food! Kaylee told me she loves her husbands bbq chicken, onion rings and peas. So, I got the recipe from her and got to cooking! I love cooking complicated recipes, but sometimes the best tasting ones are the ones that only have four ingredients: chicken, bbq sauce, lemon pepper and mesquite seasoning. I baked the  onion rings and we had peas (and carrots!) It was a very yummy meal!

Yes, I ate my onion rings before I took the picture!

This was a great way to start this series! I hope all the recommendations are as great as Kaylee's! Thanks so much for recommending such awesome things. I loved the book and can't wait to read more of his work!
