Labor Day Weekend

Friday
Danny went into work late (thanks Earl!) and got out early. It wasn't planned, so we had nothing planned for the whole day. I went to Barnes and Noble and got the first round of books and rented a few movies that you guys recommended. We went to Starbucks because I was craving a hot pumpkin spice latte with no whipped cream. This is what I got...
That couldn't be further from what I wanted. It was still delicious though! We settled in for the night with some dinner and Saw 6. I have such a hard time following what the movie is actually about. It's not even like they are good movies. I like them for purely twisted reasons....

Saturday
We were up early Saturday morning (no surprise there!) We brought Miley for a long walk on a new trail that I found. She loved it! We lounged around for the rest of the day. I read, Danny played Call of Duty. We are just that exciting! We eventually got off of our lazy butts for date night! We've been wanting to try the Chinese buffet that's in town. I was so disappointed. And my fortune cookie was EMPTY!

The food ended up making me feel really sick. So needless to say I was no fun for the rest of the night. We watched a movie and I passed out super early. How old am I?!

Sunday
We headed to Atlantic Beach with Carmen and Mike! We always have fun with them. Danny is always reminding me how much he likes them! It was a really nice day out and the water was perfect. We saw an interesting couple while we were there...

Do people seriously find that attractive?!
And of course, we snapped the necessary "hanging out" pictures!

After the beach we headed home for pizza and beer...and more Call of Duty and reading!

Monday
Today has been the laziest day ever! I finished the book (I couldn't put it down until I was done!) and there's a Pawn Stars marathon on. We've considered rearranging the house, but we're having such a lazy and relaxing day...we don't really want to do anything!

Still a few more hours
left of the holiday weekend. The perfect ending would be another trip to Barnes and Noble..and another try at my HOT pumpkin spice latte!

Day Two: Beach

Of course, when I have people down from Massachusetts the weather takes a turn for the worse. They must have brought the crappy, overcast weather with them. Luckily, we did make it to the beach while it was still a little sunny out. And it was HOT. Like, my skin felt like it was on fire...even with my SPF 50!

I'm a huge dummy. I brought my camera...with no memory card. And my sister, being a typical sister, won't let me use HER pictures until SHE posts them on HER Facebook. So, I'm forced to use crappy phone pictures!

Keith decided he wanted an adventure at the beach, so he took off on his "man-walk" to the pier. Which was so far away that I couldn't even get a decent picture of it! Me and Michelle tried to catch crabs but every time I got one it freaked me out. Creepy crawly! We chatted and got some rays. I'm not sure how long Keith was gone for but it seemed like for-ev-er.

We were going to get tattoos. But I guess "my" tattoo place isn't open on Tuesday. Such a random day to be closed! So instead we went home and waited for Danny to get out of work. The clouds rolled in and it looked like it was going to downpour! Luckily it held out til after we grilled out for dinner. We had awesome steaks, veggies and risotto cakes. YUM!

Me and Danny are used to doing nothing during the week. It's hard to think of things to do at night, in a town that shuts down at 5PM. We headed to the mall, I'm pretty sure we were the only ones there. The boys just finished an intense game of Wii golf. And now we're gonna pop some popcorn and watch a movie. Now we just have to decide which one!

Danny is officially on leave for the rest of the week! Tomorrow starts all the fun!

Tapas on the Beach

Me and Danny just had the best date night! We packed up the picnic basket with some awesome food and headed to the beach to watch the sunset.

What was in our picnic basket? Olives with feta cheese, pita bread and hummus, crackers with brie and orange marmalade, and some salami. Don't forget the red wine!

It was quite possibly one of our best, most relaxing
dates we have ever been on. I love that my husband loves picnics. We probably looked like the biggest nerds..but hey, we had yummy food so I don't care!

Rest of the Summer Plans

We plan to have a few more cookouts before the summer is over. Believe it or not, the freezer is still full of Omaha Steaks..and we're expecting more hamburgers in the mail this week. I tweeted that the burgers were a little small, Omaha Steaks saw that, apologized and insisted on sending me bigger burgers. Now that's good customer service!

My sister and her boyfriend will be here in exactly one week. So excited for that. We have an awesome night in Charlotte planned. We have reservations at a fancy-shmancy sushi place, a hotel reserved...and we're seeing this guy in concert!

We'll go to the beach a lot before the summer is over. Free fun! I love taking Miley to the beach, she loves to run and chase the waves. It's a lot of fun for all of us. I'm sure me and my sister will be spending a lot of time sitting on the beach while she is here...and getting this inked on our bodies....

Last night I saw a commercial for Busch Gardens and decided we have to go there before the summer is over. I look it up, we get free tickets. Found a hotel that we can bring Miley to, with no charge. Only a few hours away, gas isn't too expensive. And we save our change...and yes, our CHANGE is paying for this trip. SO EXCITED!

So excited about our Myrtle Beach trip at the end of August. My friend Lindsey is coming down, my friend Danielle is going to meet us there with her boyfriend...and a lot of alcohol will be consumed. It's a MUCH needed trip and I am so so so so so so excited!

My sister is bringing my wedding dress down with her. Trash the dress pictures WILL be happening.

With any luck we'll be in Maine for Labor Day and Danny's birthday. We'll be on the lake, soaking in the sun and relaxing.

What do you have planned for the rest of the summer?

Nobody Likes a Quitter!

No technology is hard. Really hard. So, I'm throwing the towel in.

How did people check movie times before the internet? And if a friend from home texts you, are you allowed to just ignore them? I'd say techno-free weekend was semi-successful. We were lazy but loved every minute of it.

We bought Avatar the day it came out, but we have been so busy that we haven't had a chance to watch it. Friday night we brought all the pillows and blankets into the living room for a movie night sleepover. I always used to make fun of my Mom when she fell asleep watching movies. She would say, "when the lights are off and my feet are covered, I can't help it." Well, I'm just like Mom. I think I saw maybe half of the movie.

We went to the beach Saturday. It was hot, hot, hot. I'm not a good beach go-er. I always end up with suntan lotion in my eyes, sand all over me, and a sunburn (no matter how high the SPF is or frequently I apply it.) And it was crowed! Look at all these people!

While Danny sunbathed, I was daydreaming about lunch. We ended up at a place that overlooked the ocean. At home, places like this are full of beer loving, laid back boaters. Apparently it's not like that in North Carolina. It was old-timers day and all the old ladies had big floppy hats on. We were sandy and in our bathing suits. To make things even more awkward some old lady yelled, "OH LOOK! A MARINE!"

We decided we wanted to see an early movie, that way we could have dinner at home. So, after a little shopping and a trip to Starbucks, we headed to the movie. We were a half hour early and Grown Ups was sold out. I didn't know movies sold out at 5:30 on a Saturday! Crazy! We ended up going to the Pawn Shop and getting a few movies. If you don't already get your movies there, you should! Ten movies for $20. Can't beat it!

Today has been so lazy. We woke up, had some breakfast, and have done n-o-t-h-i-n-g since then. That's why I gave up on being techno-free! I ordered 200 pictures on the CVS website...and only spent $18. Headed out for the Sunday haircut soon. And then we will come back and continue our lazy Sunday.

Have you read Gaile's guest blog? Totally appropriate and ironic, don'tcha think?!

Hope you are all having a great weekend!

Day 10: Crafts, Beach and Pancakes

TEXT MESSAGE FAIL! Last night I sent my Mom a text that said "Danny is taking the weed off me." It was supposed to say "Danny is taking the week off of..." OOPS!! T9 is not always my best friend!

Right now I'm sitting on my living room floor. Just looking around. Holy crap, this house is a mess. Dog toys everywhere, pillows on the floor, Buzz Lightyear wings in front of the door, video games out of their cases, and unfolded blankets. Wait....is that a piece of dirt I see? I can't wait to get my obnoxiously clean house back.

As if my house wasn't messy enough...we did Father's Day crafts! Three cards! What a lucky guy! Kaleb kept saying "Daddy is going to be SO proud of me." He couldn't wait to give them to his Daddy. We decided we were going to give the cards to him tonight, because he won't be here for Father's Day. (Poor kid had to use my kind-girly scrapbooking supplies. But he did a great job!)

Then we headed to the beach with Breanna! His first beach trip of his time here ended with a thunderstorm...this one ended with him shivering! We had fun splashing in the waves, looking at shells that looked like dinosaurs and finally got a picture of the two of us! Pardon my thunder-thighs, please and thank you!

The beach totallyyyy exhausted me for some reason. Must be the massive sunburn on my shoulders. Is it possible that sunblock doesn't work on me? I use SPF 50 and it hasn't been working! And yes, I reapply at the necessary times!

Dinner was a bit strange tonight. I pull out the recipes I like from magazines, so I don't even know where I got this one. But it was like...rich man's shepherd's pie. Which I think defeats the purpose. It had spinach and mushrooms in it. Kaleb saw me pull the spinach out of the fridge and said "I refuse to eat seaweed!" And he really did refuse to eat dinner. Danny made him sit in the living room until we were done eating. I know he would have eaten it if he didn't see what was in it. Boo on me!

But then I remembered the cards! I called Kaleb into the kitchen and he gave his Dad the cards he made. And he started crying! So, I gave him pancakes for dinner. He was too cute...I couldn't pass up tears.

And how cute is this?!?

Day 2: Beach, Helicopters, and Mini Golf

The weather was perfect this morning! We all put on our swim suits, packed up towels and toys, and got Miley in the car and headed out for the beach! I wasn't too excited to bring Miley, a nice day at the beach means lots of people..and she's a little too friendly sometimes! I don't want her jumping on people and ruining someones beach trip. But after all was said and done, she proved me wrong and was a really good girl!

Kaleb and Danny played in the water, looked for crabs and built sandcastles. I wish we could have stayed longer and had more fun, but the clouds started rolling in. We packed up and got in the car just in time for the rain!

Then we headed over to base to see the helicopters that Danny works on, the CH-53 ECHO. It was the first time for me and Kaleb. And finally, a shot of the three of us!

Another successful dinner night, even though we lied about what we were having! He said he wouldn't eat pork but loved chicken. So, we had "chicken" for dinner. It was a new recipe I was trying out, I think they both liked it more than I did.

After dinner the weather cleared up and we went mini golfing! So much fun! I got 2 holes in 1! But still managed to lose the game. BOO! Then the boys did some go-karts and arcade games!

Another great day! Me and Kaleb (and Miley too!) wish Danny didn't have work tomorrow! Hopefully I can keep him entertained. He likes to play with the Wii and maybe I'll steal his coloring book for a few hours!

A Visit From Home!

My friend Lindsey came down to visit me and Danny over the weekend! It was so great to hear the thick Boston accent in person and not just over the phone! When she left Massachusetts it was a freeeezing 20 degrees. When she landed in Jacksonville it was 10:30 in the morning and already 70 degrees! She was very excited! It was great to have one of my best girl friends around...we had lots to chat about and before I knew it Danny was home from work and it was time for dinner. Steaks on the grill? Yes please!

Friday was absolutely gorgeous out. I slathered on my SPF baby 50 and we headed to the beach. Lindsey is nuts, she went swimming! I had goosebumps with just my toes in the water! Even with my insane skin protection and only an hour on the beach, I got red. No big shocker there. Sucks!

I have been wanting a pedicure so bad lately (because well, when I got one for our wedding they whipped out power tools and I don't want that happening again!) We drove around and found a random place, and waited in a massage chair for an hour. It felt AMAZING on my back (however today I feel like someone punched me in the back and left huge bruises....) and then we got the cheapest and most amazing pedicures. I love having my legs and feet massaged...I was in heaven! (sidenote: while we were getting pedicures Miley and Danny took a nap...or so Danny thought...Miley ate a half pound of beef jerky AND the packet that says "do not eat"....the after effects were not pretty. Lucky puppy-mommy!)

I've been craving a bar. First we headed to Red Robin for delicious burgers (and a weak margarita.) Then we headed out to the Jacksonville scene. Or lack-thereof. Let's just say my night ended with beers from Walmart and McDonalds french fries. Very unsuccessful night!

Saturday night was much better. Me, Danny, Lindsey and Breanna headed down to Wilmington for a comedy show. It was a beautiful day down at the Riverwalk (as usual) and the show was fun. Sixteen comics, each on for 5 minutes. Some were hilarious...some were awful! We had lots of fun!

Sunday was a waaay lazy day, I was completely exhausted...and quiet frankly, waking up at 5 to let the dog out and her staring at me at 7 every morning to feed her is TIRING. Danny is so lucky that he can atleast fall back to sleep if he's the one to take her out! Me and Lindsey did a little shopping and then we all got lunch at CiCi's (we don't have them in Massachusetts, so I think it's the best place ever...and I like to eat my weight in pizza!)

While we were out eating and enjoying ourselves, Lindsey got a phone call that her flight from Jacksonville was canceled. That was nice of them to call...only TWO hours before her flight. It was past 6:00 and they wanted her to take a flight out of New Bern at 7:40. She made it was 10 minutes to get through security! And she was in Charlotte before we even got back to our house! Nuts!

Last night me and the hubby relaxed with some SVU and went to bed early. This is going to be a long week. He has to be out of the house at 3:30 every morning and won't be home until 7 at night. It sucks for completely selfish reasons...I have a super had time falling back to sleep in the morning and it pushes back my dinner time! See, selfish reasons.

Friday I'll have more visitors from home...I love it!

And I hope everyone took time to read Mrs. Gambizzle's guest post..it was great! And if you are interested in being a guest blogger please let me know!
