Where to Sell Your Handmade Jewelries/ Necklace, Earrings, Pendant, Bracelets

So several years after you started taking on a handcrafted jewelry hobby, you are probably now an expert in the craft. Perhaps your drawers and cabinets are overfilled with necklaces, earrings, bracelets and other trinkets. Maybe you have already run out of friends and relatives to give these things away. Now is the time for you to make money from your handcrafted jewelry by selling them.
For many hobbyists, taking the next step of making a pastime into a means of earning is an exciting phase. However, there are also many of those who could still be quite hesitant take their handcrafted jewelry hobby making to the next level because of many uncertainties that may come along the way. If such is the case for you, read on and discover how you could make your hobby not only pleasurable but lucrative as well.
Where to Sell Your Handcrafted Jewelry
For many people, selling would mean putting up a store or a boutique, but this should not always be the case for beginners. Building a shop can be intimidating, and not to mention risky, especially during the early stages. The best thing to do is to test the waters (i.e. the market) first before taking the plunge into a full-pledged handcrafted jewelry business. Here are some great venues where you can start up.

1. Handcrafted Jewelry Parties at Home - this is where many successful handcrafted jewelers start out. They invite their friends for some snack or dinner one afternoon or evening. As desert is serve, and small talk begins, you can show your guests your latest creations. Let them take a look and feel of your products. Have mirrors handy and allow guests to try your jewels out for size. This relaxed and friendly environment could be a great venue not only to take pride of your handiwork but also to sell them to people who are close to you.

2. Flea Market or Handicraft Fairs - after hosting some parties, you may now try to venture into the outside world, and a great place to do this is in handicraft fairs, where people of the same interest gather to look and shop for interesting finds. Fairs provide great settings novice jewelers as they provide good learning experiences such as the latest trends in the business. This is also where you could meet with potential contacts for your future handcrafted jewelry ventures. In Malaysia, you can consider flea markets at Amcorp, The Curve, Mont Kiara etc.

3. Online Jewelry Shops - you may also take advantage of the convenience afforded by technology by selling your products online. The great thing about online shops is you could reach a wide market without having to leave your house. You may join an online shops that specialize on accessories or you may also sell you goods in online auction sites. For a minimal cost you could enter a vast ocean of potential customers. eBay is now a phenomenally popular site that sells everything from pets to computers, and you could greatly take advantage of his wonderful channel. Also, do not forget http://diyjewelryclub.blogspot.com/ also allows hobbyists to display their creations free of charge. Just contact: diyjewelryclub@gmail.com to receive an invitation to sell here :)

You may also put up your own website so that people would associate your products directly to you. Publishing and maintaining websites these days are no longer costly and considering how much you would earn with your handcrafted jewelry business, this could be a venture worth taking.

Lesson 7: Jeweler's Cement

Jeweler's Cement dries crystal clear and will not damage your materials. Ordinary "super glues" can weaken and even eat through some bead stringing wire and can also damage the finish on beads and crystals.

Lesson 6: Bead Stringing Wire

Bead Stringing Wire is made by many different manufacturers and comes in many different sizes and strengths.

Bead stringing medium is the basic material used to create necklaces and bracelets. There are several different types and brands of bead stringing materials. I'll cover the most common ones here.1. Nylon Thread - Nylon Thread is an inexpensive option to begin bead stringing. You can find it at any craft store, or even in the craft section of department stores. It's inexpensive and comes in lots of colors. Beads with sharp edges will eventually cut through the thread and your piece will break. 2. Invisible Fishing Line - Fishing line is another option for bead stringing. Like nylon thread, it is inexpensive. But it can be cut by sharper beads, and it can also stretch out of shape.3. Tiger Tail - Tiger Tail is a type of twisted brass or stainless steel wire. It is much stronger than thread or fishing line and will last much longer. The main problem with tiger tail is that it kinks quite easily, and once it kinks it is almost impossible to straighten out again.4. Bead Stringing Wire - Bead stringing wire is actually a small cable. It is made up of multiple tiny strands of stainless steel that are twisted together and then coated. There are two properties of bead stringing wire to consider: the number of strands and the thickness of the wire.

Lesson 5: Head Pins

Head Pins are useful in making earrings and pendants. You can string beads or crystals on them, make a loop in the top, connect it to an ear wire, and you have an earring! They come in varying thicknesses and lengths.

Lesson 8: Sterling Silver or artistic wire

Sterling Silver or artistic wire is the medium used for wire wrapping. It comes in varying sizes, shapes, and degrees of hardness.

Lesson 4: Crimp Tubes

Crimp Tubes are small round tubes that are shaped with crimping pliers

Lesson 3: Ear Wires or Posts

You will need some type of ear wires to make earrings. Eventually you can learn to make them yourself.

Lesson 1: Clasps

You will need clasps to finish off your jewelry! There are lobster clasps, spring ring clasps, toggles, S-hooks, and many many many other styles

Lesson 2 - Jump Rings

Jump Rings are used to connect jewelry components together. There is an art to opening and closing them properly.

Lawyer organises sale of handmade jewelries to raise funds for the needy

Article taken from http://thestar.com.my/ today. Giving you an idea how you can best use your talent in Jewelry Making for Charity.
WITH hundreds of multicoloured beaded jewellery spread across more than five counters, customers were spoilt for choice at the Handcrafted Costume Jewellery Sale held recently at the Renaissance Hotel.
The brains behind this intricately handmade jewellery is Pamela Ong, a solicitor.
“I started making beaded jewellery three years ago and it became an addiction – I can make 20 to 30 pieces a day,” said Ong.

Talented: Ong showing off her creations.
The time taken to complete each necklace, bracelet and earring varies with the degree of complexity.
“Some only take me half an hour but some take a few hours,” Ong said, pointing at a necklace with strings of seed beads.
Among the materials she uses include semi-precious stones, plastic, bone beads, chip beads, glass and other stuff and they are all sourced during her trips overseas and visits to Petaling Street in Kuala Lumpur.
However, the well-groomed lady does not fancy wearing any of her creations; she is more than willing to give them away for charity.
Good response: Some of the women trying on the intricately-made costume jewellery.
Her first charity sale raised over RM40,000 for the Penang Branch of the National Stroke Association of Malaysia. This time, the proceeds from the sale organised by the St. Georges' Girl's School Ex-Pupils Association Kuala Lumpur and Selangor would be channelled to Cancerlink Foundation.
Cancerlink Foundation board of trustees chairman Joanne V. Fernandez said: “We are touched by Ong's generosity in sharing her skills, time and money. The funds raised will go a long way to meet the budgeted expenditure of Cancerlink.”
Penang Tourism Action Council chairman Datuk Kee Phaik Cheen, who launched the event, was impressed by the beaded items and described Ong as the “master of them all”.
“These are the result of her three months of hard work. It is difficult for us to match her generosity,” she said.
Each item was priced between RM30 and RM150 and the sale was expected to raise RM50,000.

I was invited by Radio Televesion Malaysia (RTM1) to their breakfast show, Selamat Pagi Malaysia this morning to demo on beaded jewelry making. It was my first time stepping into a TV station and it's was a live show!

It's definitely an experiance to remember; and I hope the programme meet its purpose to create awareness of beaded jewelry and promote the interest and art of beading.

Also made a new small cab, a variegated jasper, cute and small. Really neat colors in it, red with blue and some bits of silvery at the top. Wondering how I'm going to wrap this one...

First cab reworked and a new one, serpentine

I reworked the first cab as there was a crack on it, so I had to grind away at the rock until the crack. Now it's a bit smaller and actually I like it better too.

Here is a second cab I made today. It's a brown serpentine from Cyprus, which is so abundantly found here on the island. It is quite a nice one, light brown with dark spots on it. Can't wait to wrap it and see the final result :)

My first cab

Finally I got the Ameritool cabbing machine today, it was released from being hostage at the post office after I paid 80 Euros fees. Couldn't wait to come home from work and start playing with it. I've set it up, took a piece of morrisonite that Amy sent me a while ago in box with other rocks, and started grinding away at it.
First of all, I have to say that working on the machine is extremely relaxing, very quiet actually and really rewarding when you see the piece of rock starting to shape and smoothen up. So now the last doubt about buying the machine is gone as well, as I truly enjoyed polishing up this stone.
The result is not something spectacular, but it's special to me, as it's my first cab :)

Results of the second stage tumbling

After over 2 months since I started tumbling rocks, they went through 6 weeks of stage 1 and 2-3 weeks of stage 2. Here are a few pictures. The rocks are not very clean, I'll clean them up well when I have enough for stage 3, the pre-polishing stage.

Some citrine, amethyst, red jasper, a few tiger eye, rose quartz and at the right top corner of the first pic there are some serpentine, with nice green and black dots on them. Cyprus apparently is relatively abundant in serpentine, and I had no troubles finding these pieces on the beaches here.

Reading a good thriller

For me reading a good thriller, mystery is like immersing my soul into another dimension, losing myself and becoming totally captivated in another world.
This is what happened when I read No Time for Goodbye by Linwood Barclay, a thriller which starts with...
You wake up, your house is empty, your family has disappeared...
And then the story builds up from this strong premise. The idea is pretty scary, if you think about it, and I thought about it quite a lot these days while I was reading the book. Couldn't wait to get home from work to get the book in my hands. The ending didn't disappoint, I even shed a single tear (call me sentimental). I don't want to give away the plot, so I'll only say that if you like thrillers by Nicci French, Harlan Coben and the like, I'm sure you will love this one as well.
