She's At It Again...

As you may have noticed, I changed the aesthetics of my blog again. The dark purple was just to oppressing to me.

I promise I will try to stick with this one. It's much cleaner and lighter, don't you agree?

How to make beads from Polymerclay

Just like to share that I found a great site that shares making of beads from Polymer clays - http://polymerclaybeads.blogspot.com/! The site is owned by Silastones. She started making Polymer clay beads in 2005. She started a blog to share her experieces with polymer clay and started a tutorial blog to show how she makes some of her beads.
The picture above is one of the examples of tutorial she shared there. Really nice, take a look!

By the way, if you are looking for place or shop that sells Fimo Polymer Clay in Malaysia, you can buy it from http://cgi.ebay.com.my/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360239129927. Attractive price that you should not miss!

Still Here, Still Kicking

I just wanted to update my blog, and update all of you who actually read this thing as to why I've been absent!

Those of you who know me fairly well know that I've been fighting a long battle over the last two years. For anyone who's just getting to know me....the short story is that about two years ago my asthma attacks (which have been severe for years) grew drastically worse. The doctors have tried all sorts of medication and treatment, but they haven't been able to get it under control.

As a part of trying to treat my asthma, I've been on steroids for the last two years. They have kept me alive, kept me out of the hospital, but being on steroids is NOT the ideal situation! Since we are finally getting my asthma under control (that's a long story too), we are working to at the least reduce my steroid levels, and at best get me completely off them!

The only problem with getting me off the steroids is that I get to go through withdrawals, just like a druggy, as we go through the process. The good news is that I'm not having any super serious asthma attacks, the bad news is that I'm exhausted and dealing with about 5 different side effects.

Combine that with having a busy week, and I just didn't have the energy (mental or physical) to blog this week! I haven't really gotten much done crafty wise either. I do have lots of ideas on the table though, and I'm hoping to get to spend some time beading and catching up on watching things tonight :)

Featured Crafter: Bliss Street

I first met Bliss Street on Twitter. Just a few days before Christmas and her gift for her god daughter had not arrived. She asked for help on another gift. I jumped in to help. I always answer a cry for help.  I spent some time going through Etsy shops looking for the Urban Outfitter style. I so happened to know someone who wore the same style. I found a bag as a possible option incase the gift did not arrive, but fortunately her perfect gift arrived in the nick of time.

Straight from Bliss St Shop announcement: Jewelry is portable art.  Here at Bliss St. we feature vintage, estate and antique jewelry. Including Bakelite, 30's, 40s,50's,60's, 70's, 80's, Victorian, art deco, art nouveau, arts and crafts. We have unique jewelry of many different medias including sterling silver, gold, costume, glass, and enamel.
You can get lost in her shop, but in a good way. Many of her vintage pieces can be grabbed up to upcycle great jewelry pieces or crafts for today.  One of the items I like in her shop are these unique handmade blown glass pendants...Don't Eat the Mushrooms.

If you're a charm girl, you'll like her large selection of charm necklaces.

You can find Bliss St anywhere on the web: Fan her on Facebook, Blog and on Flickr.  Be sure to visit her blog to get to know Bliss St and her vintage and indie jewelry collection. You won't regret it.

My Coral Reef

I have been wanting to get some pictures up of my saltwater coral tank for some time. Well, as I was feeding the fish tonight and they were zipping around the tank, I grabbed my camera. (the floating white stuff is their shrimp.) If you click on the picture, you can enjoy a larger image.

Folksy Friday meets Twitter

Birds are sweet, aren’t they? They remind us of spending time out in the summer sun, listening to their songs, or of time spent in front of the PC promoting our shops on Twitter!

Here are my Folksy birdy picks:

A pair of beautiful lovebird bowls from Prince Design UK

These lovely blue birds (my fave colour, in case you hadn't guessed!) on a print from sooziebee

This gorgeous handbag from Uniquely Different which I really, really want - but OH says we need a bigger house before I can buy any more handbags :(

And lastly, in hommage to the Etsy front page, we must have an owl.

How to make Egyptian Coil Bracelet (Free tutorial)

This design is adapted from the famous Egyptian coils. Based on the tutorial by Marie Cristine which can be found here. I made it and adapted it to come up with other variations. It is a fun and satisfying project! Here, I am going to share with you some process pictures of making this. All you need are just some copper wires to make it.

Materials Needed:
· 21 gauge (0.7mm) of copper wires
· 28 gauge (0.3mm) of copper wires

Tools Needed
· Wire Cutter
· Round nose pliers
· Chain-Nose pliersMeasurement tape/ ruler

Cut approximately 15cm of 21ga wires. Make a loop at each end of the wire

Use your pliers to slowly coil the wire at both ends

When you are done you should have a piece like this at each end.

The length between the first and second spirals should be around 5.5cm.

Then bend it in half by holding your pliers at the middle of the wires between the two spirals.

You should end up with this phallic looking link.

Hold your flat nose pliers at the middle of the link and bend it towards the back of the spirals.

This is one single link! Continue to make approximately 24 pieces of this.

Now let’s join the single links together. You may open up wires at the back of the link (let’s call it hook) slightly. Place the hook from the second link into the first link.

Then continue to link up the rest until you get your desired length.

I will show you how to make beaded clasp for the bracelet tomorrow. So stay tune!
