Facebook: Making Life Awkward, One Friend Request at a Time

I briefly touched upon this topic the day after my bachelorette party. Danny's ex-wife. I usually don't talk about it here, because it's something that doesn't generally effect our everyday life. I know  I can't erase his past, or the fact that he has a son, nor would I want to. But this girl....seriously. RELENTLESS.

Last summer she called me an "alcoholic" and apparently I "look like a man." I admit, I do like the occassional drink or two, but I am in no way, shape or form an alcoholic. And a man? Ok, in that picture my hair was awful, but not even man-boobs would explain these two things on my chest!

Anyway, that was the only "interaction" we had until the night of my bachelorette party. Dummy me, a photo album on Facebook wasn't "friends only," so it's my thought that she was checking that out. Then she sent me a message with HORRIBLE grammar mistakes, which is why I responded..I was egging her on. Mostly, her concern was that we didn't ask her if Kaleb could be in the wedding. Not true, we had a plan, it didn't work out. And even if we asked her, she would have said no.

Last week she sent me another message, basically saying the same thing, and that I was lucky she "has respect" because she has "so much to say." Whatever, I ignored it. She's just trying to get under my skin.

To end this lovely story, and to sum up the title, today she asked to be my friend. Accept? Deny? Even better..Facebook Limbo! Just let her suffer, knowing she can't ask me again until I obviously deny her. The little devil on my shoulder is telling me to accept her, but to make everything private after.

What would you do?

Seneca Rising Top, Paige Premium Denim
Seneca Rising Top, Paige Premium Denim
Seneca Rising Top, Paige Premium Denim
(Seneca Rising Aurore Top, Paige Verdugo Jegging in Sapphire, Civico 9 Short Cowboy Boots)

These jeans I got from Revolve are called 'jeggings' and although I am not a fan of the term 'jeggings' these jeans feel exactly how they should feel like: nice denim feel yet the comfortableness of a legging minus the wedgie. I always thought jeggings were super thin denim with that weird elastic waistband but these are just like jeans except it is so stretchy (still maintains its fit though even after an 8 hour wear)
I wanted to dress up the jeans so I chose a feminine drapey top that I also got from Revolve.
You'll definitely see me wearing these pieces more often.

Wow, very beautiful wire wrapped key pendant!

Spotted this nice wired key pendant from http://diylessons.ning.com/profile/TerryPugh ! It is a wire wrapped key pendant, made from copper wire and red swavoroski crystals and hematite beads. Very beautiful, isn't it?
Would like to introduce you to the artist too. The creation is made by Terry and resides in in California. She is an artist/jewelry designer and has been making a jewelry for many years but only recently took a serious interest into wire wrapping. She love bold colors, wire, metals and gemstones. She is very fond of copper wire.

You can also check out her blog at http://wired4style13.blogspot.com/

Cheers!

I Want It Wednesday

This week is a no brainer. I want a puppy. I have the puppy picked out (she is on the far left in the picture) and have been talking to her owner. Now, to just make up my mind about this! She is free. But can we actually afford her? Food, leash, collar, snacks, crate, food dishes, toys, and everything else. Not to mention the family puggle averages $290 at her annual appointment and $60 every six months for her heartworm pills. Seriously? Could we do it. I want to do it.

Wordless Wednesday...

Super Sale Items Left in XXS or 00P

**Wednesday is the last day to enter my Spring giveaway! Details here**

Was going to do part II of petite suiting reviews today, but there are so many online sales going on that I had to share instead. I love double dipping with coupon codes on top of sales, so needless to say I was excited that LOFT's "SAVE25" works in addition to their current 30% off all dresses sale (just tested this in my shopping cart)! Narrowed it down to these picks for sharing:

LOFT Pleated Dress with Floral Applique, PXXS left in purple only. Love this easy breezy self-belted dress, and wish I saw it when gray was still in stock!

Final Price: $36.48

LOFT Rosette Jersey Dress in 00P, $36.48. I was so surprised that this is offered in numerical sizing instead of XS, S ... esp. considering it's made of stretch jersey! That just means better chance for a snug little fit!

LOFT Linen Dress with Ribbon Waist Tie in 00P, $41.74. I love linen for warm months, and I'm also drawn to the cute side pockets and front pleats. Size 00P remains in two colors.

In other news, J.Crew is having EXTRA30 off sale items with just a few XXS's remaining. Found this adorable Ruffled Henley Tank left in XXS with choice of four colors! The price - a bargain at just $17.50 w/ EXTRA30.
And remember this? The J.Crew Grand Ruffle Shell that I tried on in this post (note - I have on an XS) has gone on sale for just $22.75 with EXTRA 30! Size XXS is still left in every color. And a bonus - this is not final sale, so it should be returnable in the event that it doesn't fit.
In the world of work, Banana Republic is having EXTRA20 off sale items until March 31st. Sadly, I'm not interested in much from there. *However* I had to share this Taupe Sheath Dress that my friend Petite Polish Girl wore to work today. It's on sale (but by no means "super sale" so it doesn't really belong in this post) and still available in 00P online! The model photo looks mediocre, and the one online review is bad, but I thought it looked great on my friend - very classic and fitted in a lovely neutral color. Gonna post a pic of her tomorrow.

**As promised, photos of my friend in the above dress (for ref. she is 5'2" and 120lbs). Sorry it's a little wrinkly but this was taken after a long day of sitting - maybe that's a bad sign!
Dress: BR Taupe Sheath Dress in sz 2 (regular!)
Cardigan and belt; J.Crew size Small

Here's Why Today is a Good Day!

Three different mail carriers were at my house. We are so popular and the reason mail should continue to run 6 days a week.

First, the regular mailman brought me my mail, and a package from the Easter Bunny, with gigantic letters saying "do not open until Easter." It will be torture, but we will wait! And in the same delivery, we got a letter from the Marriott giving us a free night on our one year anniversary..breakfast included.

Second, another guy brought my Stonewall Kitchen stuff. This guy was not pleasant, but since he had my yummy self-purchased-gift I was nice to him. I am now the proud owner of 12 sauces, dips, spreads and jams. And one pretty cool zester!

Third, a surprise mailman came bringing flowers. I was like 'who the heck is sending me flowers?!' Mom of course, should have known. Pretty Easter flowers, they even replaced the bowl on my dining room table. I seriously think I have the best Mom ever!

Folksy Macmillan fundraising shop

The fantastic news is that one of the newest Folksy shops is dedicated to raising money for Macmillan.  Run by Kaz, you can visit the shop here

I've donated these lovely Pink Mookaite and Rhodonite earrings to the cause

Although they still appear in my shop, anyone purchasing them will be donating the full price of £15 to Macmillan fundraising. The only thing that is not donated is the P&P.

Macmillan do fabulous work and you can read more about them here

Another great way to help charities like Macmillan is to give a regular small monthly donation. Even though times are hard, if you are able, donating £2 a month from your bank account soon becomes a habit, and frankly, what can you buy for £2 these days? A posh coffee can easily set you back more than that! I support the Cancer Research Foundation this way, and you can find out more here

I'm delighted to be able to support these causes, and to be part of the Folksy community that are committed to helping this cause.

Crafty ADD Weeks 21 - 30

I've had so much fun doing my Crafty ADD posts! And one of my favorite posts of all is when I get to the end of a 10 week (approx) stretch and look back with a slide show on all I've done. It's a lot of fun to revisit my projects, frustrations, and triumphs. I hope you have fun looking at the slide show as well :)

Tip Tuesday....Photographing Jewelry Tutorial

There is no denying it. It doesn't matter how fabulous your jewelry masterpiece is. If the photos aren't good, it won't bring lookers and potential buyers. It is also no secret that photographing jewelry is one of the most hardest subjects to capture. However, there are a few secrets to making your jewelry photographs look like they came fresh from a catalog. It may be worth noting that these secrets can be used for photographing any small item. Let's face it, capturing small items on film that look enticing in the photo is much harder than landscapes and "fun-with-your-friends" photos. In this series, I will walk you through everything I have learned in the last two years of trial and failure in the hopes that it will help fine tune your photography.

1. Light
Please don't waste your money on one of those light tents that is available for jewelry photography UNLESS you live in an area that experiences months without sun. I happen to live in New York by Lake Erie, therefore, we go through spells of lake effect snow and cloudiness from December to February. In this case, a light tent is paramount if I am going to need to photograph during those months. Now that spring is here, however, I am retiring my light tent until next year. In the future, I will have a tutorial on using a light tent.

With that being said, every one's house has light. Take a few days to scope the way the light comes in your house through the south-facing windows on sunny days. Every window will have a daily period of diffused lighting, then bright light, then diffused lighting. You want to try to pinpoint the time of day that the light goes through it's first diffused period. To describe diffused, look at the light that is cast on the carpet. If the light is about a 45 degree angle, that is perfect!

Notice how the sun hitting the floor is at an angle. This means that sun is on its way up but is not up all the way. This lighting will be much softer. This time of day for me is about 11am depending on the time of the year. In the months of winter, I have to revert back to the tent because the sun is so low in the sky even in it's highest position that this time of day doesn't render enough light for me. (In actuality, this window is either north facing or the sun is on it's way down...however, it's the angle of the light cast I wanted to point out).

If the light shining on the carpet is straight ahead, the sun is in it's highest position in the sky as in this photograph. (BTW, these photos are sourced...click the pictures to get to the source of origin.). By this time of day, the sun will be too harsh, not to mention, in your way.

Now that you have found your time (and it will fluctuate, so pay attention to it), choose a room with a table large enough to spread things out on, making sure it is pretty close to the window. You don't want to photograph on the floor as you are greatly limiting the angle options of your photos. You definitely don't want it too close to the window and you certainly don't want the item you are photographing to be in the direct sunlight cast from the window. You only want to take the luminance from the light coming in to aid in the lighting of your photo session. This will eliminate any need for artificial light with will add either pink, yellow or blue tones to your image.

The specs of my area are as follows: my light source window is 36" x 45" and I use my dining room table which is about 3 1/2' from the window. I do have a light source that I use over my table while I'm photographing to add extra luminance if it is needed. It is a chandelier using 5 daylight colored bulbs. Here is a picture of my "photo shooting area". You don't need a fancy-schmancy area, all you need are a window and a table. The table is important because if you shoot on the floor, you are seriously limiting potential camera angles. I learned this the hard way.

As you see, the window is really not all that large, but at about 11am, the light filters in angled towards the back wall (you can kind of see the luminescence already and it is only 9:30am). You can also see the artificial light source I use to boost the luminance for the pictures. I recommend that if you are going to use artificial light sources that you install day time lamps. They do have a blue tinge to them which may show up in the photographs, so only use them if you really, really need them.

Oh, one more really important piece of advice. Wear white while you are taking the pictures. I don't care if it is your favorite bathrobe or an old out-of-style white sweater you picked up from a thrift shop. Wear white. Whatever tone of the clothes you are wearing while taking the pictures will effect the light in the actual photograph image. Since I wear mostly black and neutral colors, my clothes tend to steal the light from my shots. One day last summer I did an experiment and took a white sweater from my daughter's closet, put it on and shot a few photos. I was amazed at how much brighter the pictures were.

So, for the next couple of days, keep a log of where the light falls in your windows over the course of the day so you can pinpoint when the best time to take your pictures falls. The point of this is so that as your inventory builds up, you can have them all ready to take at the proper time on the next sunny day.

Here's what to expect in the coming weeks:
Part II: Composition and Background, What best compliments
Part III: Your Camera and Angles, Don't be that photo-shooter
Part IV: Photo Editing, You can make something of nothing

Crafty ADD #30

I know - I went two weeks with out an update, but life's been such that I wasn't getting too much done so it's not too much of a loss :P

Crocheting

I'm never doing this blanket again! I figured it out, the squares are so small that I'm having to tie in twice as many ends as I did when I did the first baby blanket. I do NOT like tying in ends! LOL Oh well. It's going to be pretty - so that's something at least :)

Cross Stitch

Book mark's finished! Well, ok, so in that photo it hasn't be cut out and backed yet, but Mom does that part for me (interfacing hates me) so I took a snap shot before I sent it her way :)

I'm making something for me this time! Can you tell what that is in the center? I'll give you a hint, it's an animal :P
I finished my "no thought" necklace - but not my butterfly! Hoping to finish that tonight :) I've got a lot of projects I need to get going on - so I really need to finish it up!

Here's a snap shot of my first paper beads! This is after they've been rolled, and coated with one coat of glue. They still need to have a finishing spray put on them, but it's been raining and I need to have the hubby do that outside. Once their completely done I'll start listing them online and do a post all about how I made them!

Jewelry Of Indian Culture

Looking back, even before humans discovered the art of communication and language, there was fashion and jewelry. According to the British archaeologist Archibald Campbell Carlyle, “the first spiritual want of a barbarous man is decoration”. True enough, humans give importance on how they look. It gives them a sense of uniqueness and identity. Like art, it is deemed to be a window to the soul of the wearer.

Homo sapiens began making jewelry more than 40,000 years ago. It is believed that jewelry was brought to India some 5,000 years ago, which from then on became an integral part of Indian lifestyle. In fact, even their obsession with gems and jewelry gave them the title of being the world’s “golden bird”. Indian jewelry is highly influenced by India’s rich history and culture. It has a wide range of variety and classifications from the usage, the place of origin, and the part of body the jewelry will be worn, the occasion and so on.

Indians are known for their utilitarian nature that is why most of their crafts in the past still flourish at present. The first jewelries were handcrafted from natural and readily available materials around the country like wood, stones, shells, fruits, flowers, seeds, animal bones and teeth. The primary use of jewelry in the early times was to fasten clothes together which later on became solely as an ornament or for religious purposes. At present, there are various materials used for making jewelry from metals to cloth. Indian handcrafted jewelry is often enhanced by gem stones, by engraving or carving and by using various colors and elegant patterns.

Jewelry enhances the beauty of a woman or the masculinity of a man that is why fashion is never complete without jewelry. In India, the maang tikka is a staple ornament on a woman’s hair. It is traditionally used on engagement and wedding ceremonies but is now also being used mainly for aesthetic purposes. It is one jewel piece that is distinctive to Indian culture. Though in other cultures, maang tikka is represented by the bridal veil in wedding ceremonies. Indian neck pieces such as necklaces are also one of the staple ornaments worn by women. The kind of necklace to be worn depends on the kind of outfit to wear. The traditional patterns carved on bangles and bracelets make them identifiable to the Indian culture. The intricate cutwork on silver or gold traditional bracelets can be traced to India’s rich art culture.

Posh Spice is pictured in a traditional Indian Sari and ‘maang tikka’

Most brides adorn their foreheads with a Maang Tikka. Picture courtesy of http://www.arzoomag.com/wedding/what-to-wear-on-your-wedding/

Aside from its aesthetic purposes, Indian jewelry has many connotations on the wearer’s social, political, religious or economic standing. In earlier times, jewelry tells from which family, tribe or political group you belonged to. It is also a symbol of how good of a jeweler you are. Today, it is difficult to tell, even when used by conservatives.

When one thinks about Indian fashion, one would always picture a woman in a regal outfit and plenty of ornaments to complement it. All of which have elaborate patterns and designs which are most often than not unique to their culture.

Do you like the article? Perhaps in the next few post, I can show you other types of indian jewelry. Stay tune!

And Now: The Living Room!

You guys are probably getting sick of my boring posts, but I'm just really proud of our apartment and how much time (and love) we have put into everything. I promise..regular postings will be happening again soon!

Danny picked out our couches (I think it's because he wanted a comfy "gaming chair." Yes ladies, my husband is a nerd!) We both picked out the curtains, but he spent HOURS hanging (and re-hanging) three curtain rods before we decided on one we like. I also love the small touches in the room (pictures, books, lots of art, and inspirtational quotes like "God makes happy endings. So if it's not happy, then it's not the end.")

Painting by Kenny Glenn who even signed the back for Danny!

Playing a silly game in "his" chair
Oh, and like I said before..there's always something going wrong at the apartment. Today while changing my candles I broke glass all over the place and cut my hand. And our brand new microwave doesn't work. I threw away the box without testing it first because, well..how often does something like this happen?! Someday, hopefully soon, everything will be perfect!
