Yesterday's Newspaper Is Today's Jewelry

While surfing the net to find some good cliparts, I was distracted when I bumped into http://www.newspaperjewelry.com/! I browse thru a few designs and am amazed how the artist recycled newspaper into beautiful jewerly. Picture above is a bracelet made of Recycled Newspaper Comic Strips with Swarovski Crystal and Faceted Glass Trim.

The website is run by Holly Anne Mitchell who has her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from The University of Michigan. She had a project to create a piece of jewelry without using any traditional materials: no metal, precious/semi-precious stones, etc. She chose Newspaper because of the Bright Colors and Rich Textural Patterns of the Sunday Comics. The idea stuck with her and she has been creating Newspaper Jewelry ever since!

Holly Anne has received several awards and her artwork has been featured in numerous publications including The Boston Globe, Art & Antiques, The Washington Post, The Washington Times, Ornament, Mary Engelbreit Home Companion and The Baltimore Sun. She has also been profiled in a recent episode of The Food Network Series "Unwrapped".

This bracelet made with California losing lottery tickets is called Shattered Dreams. . . .
and wearing recycled paper jewelry to lessen one's eco-footprint would be appropriate in either case.
Kudos to Holy Anne as she has done a great job by using her creativity to turn recycled papers to jewelry. Great work for preserving our earth!
