The most common technique in making jewelry from paper is making beads out of rolled paper. Using a small thin stick like a toothpick, hold the tip of the paper on the toothpick and slowly roll the paper tightly on the stick. Then dab a little glue on the other end of the paper to seal the bead. The toothpick gives the bead a small hole for stringing the beads together.
Another form of making beads is paper mache. This is a more messy way of making paper jewelry but it gives you more freedom to be creative in the shape of your jewels. Gather a pile of old used paper and rip them to smaller pieces approximately about an inch in area. Put the papers in a pot and pour boiling water until the paper is drowned. Allow it to sit for at least an hour. You can stir the mixture to help the paper break easily. When the paper gets soggy, drain as much water out of it. Add enough glue so that the paper would harden. Use white glue that is transparent when dry.
For more flexibility and uniqueness of your paper jewelry, you can use different origami techniques in making the jewels that adorn the chains of your, say for example, necklace. You can visit Hila Rawet Karni ’s site for more information on her jewelry and to acquaint yourself of paper fashion.
