Eye Pins - An Easy Way to Connect

In one of my articles, I mentioned that we cannot make jewelry without strings. I almost forgot that one way to make jewelries without using any strings is by using connectors, such as by using wires and another way is by making a chain using jump rings.

Here is one easy technique that I would like to share to all of you crafters out there in creating necklaces or bracelets by using eye pins, linking them together and create connectors.

Instead of using jump rings, which most of us normally do, similar in creating a Chainmaille or by cutting pieces of wire of the same length and use it in making a loop and connector, a much easier way is by using eye pins that already has a loop on one end. I find it easier to use eye pins with a loop on one end in creating a bracelet or necklace rather than cutting several pieces of wire and making two loops for linking. It saves time having to cut several pieces of wire or opening and closing jump rings one by one. With the eye pins, all I have to do is make a loop on the other end to start linking. I also like creating jewelries using the technique of linking or looping using eye pins and wires or jump rings because it gives a different look on the jewelry other than the conventional way of stringing beads. But you can always use any technique in jewelry making where you are most at ease.

For those of you crafters and avid readers who are just beginning to learn how to make jewelries, here is a video tutorial on Using an Eye Pin to Make a Connector that I have researched. Remember, in making a connector you can use either wires or jump rings, whichever is appropriate for the kind of piece you would be making. In this video tutorial from www.BlueMoonBeads.com, it showed how to use eye pins as connectors.

I learned jewelry making way back 1996 just by experimenting and here is what one of my creations looks like. It is one of the first pieces that I have made way back in 2000. I used wire wrapping technique for the pendant and created a bail. There are 22 sets of eye pins that have three beads on it that are linked or looped to create a chainlike necklace. I used a magnetic clasp to finish the piece.

Now, what can you say?

I know it really looks simple and I am more than willing to receive any suggestions and make revisions on the design. I would love to feature your suggestions and make this piece look more elegant.
