Maang Tikka
Maang tikka is a staple Indian head piece. It has been used by Indian brides for so many centuries as part of their wedding and engagement traditions. Nowadays, it is also being worn on many special occasions such as formal dinners and runway shows. The wearing of maang tikka has rooted from their history in painting and sculpture. This head piece is a stringed item that has a hook at one end which is attached to the back of the hair and allowed to fall freely at the center part of the hair. The tikka, or the jeweled part of the accessory, is freely dangling on the woman’s forehead.
Earrings
Both Indian men and women wear earrings. In the ancient times, earrings were only worn by women but when fashion evolved, wearing of earrings also evolved. Men also wore earrings as a fashion statement or adornment.
Nose Rings
One popular Indian jewelry is the nose ring. However, it is not of Indian origin. It originated from the Middle East and was brought to India when the Mughals ruled them. It is not actually a ring, it is actually a stud depicting a small flower (the stud on the nose) and its stem (the chain that goes inside the nosetril). It is usually on the left side of the nose and is often decorated with delicate designs and chains.

An outfit is never complete without a neck piece. It is the number one staple jewelry worn by Indian women. Necklace wearing in India is very traditional and has a lot of history and meaning on it. Thus, its designs depict the rich history of India.
Bangles and Bracelets
Bangles are also one of the traditional jewel pieces worn by Indian women. It is said to be the most adaptable accessory since it is worn and can be worn by any age group regardless of their Indian ethnicity, religion, etc. It has been know in India as “Chudi” and it is available in different designs and sizes and is worn to adorn the wrist. Men also wear bracelets but it is the women who most often wear bangles. This type of jewelry can be worn anytime and anywhere.
Finger Rings
Finger ring is a universal accessory. Women and men alike wear rings all over the world. In India, it is knows as “Angoothi” and is highly available in a wide variety of designs.
Waistbands
Indian women also adorn themselves with waistband jewelry. It is known in India as the “Tagdi” or “Kamarband”. It comes in different colors and handcrafted intricate designs. It is worn around the waist and rests just below the waistline.
Anklets
Known as the “Payal” or “Pajeb”, anklets are popular among Indian women. It is worn around the ankle and has various embellishments. From young kids to old women, it is worn with grace.
Toe Rings
Traditionally, married women wear toe rings. At present, even teenagers who are not yet married also wear this as a fashion accessory. It is known as “Bishua” in India and it is very popular there that it comes in different styles and sizes.
