They call me ‘Gadget Girl” for a reason…
The other day I was not feeling well, and I decided to just have a LAZY DAY. Honestly I do that a lot lately, but this particular day was even lazier than normal.
I sat in my favorite chair with my feet up, laptop perched on my disappearing lap (my baby belly is taking up space that USED to be reserved for small children and more recently has functioned as my laptop stand).
Of course, during deployment my cell phone never leaves my side, because I never know when hubby might call. So I had my laptop AND my cell phone with me, and then added my cordless home phone for good measure (I didn’t want to ruin my lazy day and actually GET UP every time the phone rang, right?) The two phones found their spots on opposite arms of my comfy chair.
When my lazy spell began, my ten year old was watching TV in the same room, but then he went outside to play. On his way out, he handed me the TV remote, so I added this to my rapidly growing collection of little gadgets all around me. I found a show to watch before setting the remote on the arm of my chair, next to my cell phone.
My purse sat next to my chair on the floor, and my iPad chimed from within it, letting me know that it was my turn in an online game (Words With Friends….I am so addicted to that one!) …..so I reached down to retrieve the iPad, played my turn, and found room on the arm of the chair for the iPad to rest before returning to my facebooking and emailing on my laptop.
A commercial came on the TV that reminded me of a book I had been wanting to read, so I reached down to my purse again – being careful not to knock down any of the above mentioned gadgets – and pulled out my Kindle to search for the book before I could forget again. I quickly found the book, downloaded it, and then set the Kindle on top of my iPad.
My home phone rang (see, wasn’t I smart to keep it next to my lazy self?) and on the other end was my dentists’ office, confirming an appointment. I clicked the calendar app on my iPad but didn’t see the appointment there, so I reached down to my purse again (it’s more of a gadget bag than a purse, in case you can’t tell) and grabbed my iPod Touch – which is usually my default appointment book, since I don’t always carry the bulkier iPad with me. Yup, there was the dental appointment in my calendar. Naturally I had to add this to the iPad calendar, so it was convenient that I had it within reach. Done.
Ok, so back to being lazy…..and this is the part that made even ME laugh. Home phone rang again, and I started to pick up my CELL phone to answer. I caught my mistake right away and put the silent cell phone down, but then grabbed the TV REMOTE to answer…..still not it! By now the verbal caller i.d. alert (which I hate, by the way!) was giving me fair warning that this was a sales call, so I gave up and put my final mistaken gadget down. That was the iPod touch.
After recovering from a laughing fit, I had to take a picture of my self-imposed gadget prison. Luckily, like any good gadget-girl, I had my digital camera nearby, too.
(just imagine, soon I will be adding a baby monitor to this mess!)
**EDIT: how many of you think it is wonderfully ironic that GADGET GIRL is taking over this blog while Nicole is enjoying her 'technology free weekend'??? I am LOVING it.....**
